  1. Oh my god, let's not speak too soon here about release dates! A postal strike during all of this would be HORRIBLE!!!!
  2. For those waiting for FQRSC as well (MA). I just called. The final decisions were made on Friday. Emails will be going out at the end of this week or early next week at the latest.
  3. Except for the beginning of May bit - that's new! And disappointing! But apparently to be expected...
  4. Please do! They must be pretty tired of fielding calls and emails (I called too), although likely used to it by this point, and also a good impetus for them to get moving!
  5. I never thought I'd say this, especially not with three in four days, but it's *almost* like final exams are a wanted distraction. I also think I have a while to go yet, as it appears from today's postings that PhD will be out before MA.
  6. This is not what I was told this afternoon, which is that meetings are still taking place and letters are expected to go out at the end of the month. For MA anyway.
  7. Lymrance, what university was that? Please message me if you'd prefer to remain anonymous. Although I'm not sure how to retrieve them...
  8. Hoping it's because what LemonPepper says is right. Unfortunately the MA stats are not so helpful, although both my application university and awarding university ranked high, which is good to know, but also as expected.
  9. Official word came from your department or directly from SSHRC? I was told it would come from SSHRC, by mail.
  10. Well, fingers crossed that you are right! And yes, an answer to that would be handy. We will know soon enough... Question for you, lemonpepper: Is the grant awarded in a lump sum, or in two payments? Starting at the beginning of the school year? (My degree is one year only.)
  11. Good god, I hope that's true! I guess I will find out soon enough, although this makes the wait almost worse! It's not what I was told by a former committee member, who said they review from scratch and actually said quite the opposite when I asked if it was merely a rubber stamp. But the conversation was brief and perhaps she was referring to PhD.
  12. Wow - thanks for all of the info. It looks like we may actually hear something soon! Now I'm even more anxious, as I thought it was standard practice to do Phd's first. If that's not necessarily the case, that means anything could happen in the next couple of weeks...
  13. I was going to say... There are several different scholarships and/or fellowships, so while one may be sending out rejections, it's entirely possible that they have not started on the others. Has anyone heard applied for or heard anything about MA (Joseph-Bombardier) or FQRSC MA? Thanks!
  14. Ok, I understand now. I too am relying on these forums - it's the most information we have... Congratulations on NYU - that's pretty great! Please do post with your brother's news. Good luck to him!
  15. Ottawag, are you referring to MA or PhD??? I am waiting for MA through Ottawa. Well, I applied through Ottawa anyway. Please let me know!
  16. My letter from the university said April. But I suppose that's standard practice. And my email from SSHRC simply says the results will be sent by mail - pretty vague. Hopefully they will be more on top of things this year.
  17. Thank you. I've known for a while now - since about mid-Feb. But I applied before the deadline. My whole application was in by mid-November. The committee goes slowly, so the timing will depend on when your application was received. I checked on Minerva and it said "recommended by department" and at the same time received an email from the faculty saying I had been recommended. Official offer from the university came before the end of that week. But that should have taken longer - website says a few weeks. Again, I think it was because I was early. So I'm not sure whether no news is bad news. If it were bad news, you would know via Minerva. So until it says refused or wait list, I would still be hopeful. I am confused about your profile. Says you are in Anthropology... I don't understand the connection with LLM.
  18. Accepted. What do you mean "getting your shit together?"
  19. I too am starting at McGill in the fall. Although I am from Montreal and did my first undergrad there a few years back. A word of advice to apartment-seekers: The "Ghetto" is overpriced and noisy. I don't recommend it for a grad student who is actually looking to get work done in his/her home. Landlords of nice places in the ghetto know that they can charge an arm and a leg, as the majority of undergrads (or their parents) will pay it, and even the more expensive places are cheap compared to other cities. The less nice and more affordable housing in the ghetto (500-700) range is just a rip off. Head east a couple of blocks (past Parc Ave. or even closer to St. Laurent or St. Denis) and you will find nicer places, at the same or lower prices, with no one smashing beer bottles outside your window at 2 am. Trust me, this happens regularly. And the authorities don't do anything about it, as it is a student area. Montreal also has an excellent (and cheap compared to other cities) public transit system. There is a metro stop practically across the road (maybe a block away) from the main gates to McGill and the no. 24 bus, which runs along Sherbrooke and drops you off at the door. NDG, to the west of downtown, is on the 24 line, about a 10-minute ride with no traffic or maybe 20 during rush hour. Lots of apartments, parks and all of your required amenities. If you take the 24 the other way, toward the Plateau - more bohemian and trendy - the distance is probably even less, and again, a great area. You can also go north into the "Plateau," which lies on the other side of Mount Royal. Less direct by public transit (although still not far) and excellent for cyclists or walkers. Montreal has the Bixie bike rental system, so you don't even need to own a bicylce or worry about having to store it in your apt. Of couse, that doesn't work in the winter. Good luck to you all! Please don't hesitate if you have questions re. Montreal housing or anything else about the city. I probably can't answer too many questions about the school, as I believe undergrad and grad studies are two very different worlds.
  20. Also, someone mentioned FQRSC. I applied for that as well and have yet to hear anything other than that my application was received in October/November. Would love to hear if people have any information on that. Thanks.
  21. I too am playing the waiting game (MA - Joseph Bombardier - recommended by faculty)... Does anyone know if rejections come before or after offers? Presumably after, but it would be nice to know when to stop checking the mail with hope... Although based on the above comments it seems that it could go til mid-May.
