When I got my first official acceptance (which is most likely the program I will attend), I was at an informal dinner as part of an interview weekend for another university. The acceptance was also to the highest ranked school I applied to, so that definitely brought by confidence up for the interview. The only bummer was that I couldn't really shout the news to anyone in proximity...would've been a bit of an awkward situation haha.
I could really use some advice as I am doing this for the most part on my own. I applied to the Dept. of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience at Cambridge and have been given conditional acceptance given that I can secure funding by the end of July. I am an American citizen (so I'm an overseas applicant and I have higher tuition fees). I have applied to the Cambridge International Scholarship and St. John's Benefactor's Scholarship which are both scholarships from within the university and cover both the stipend and tuition. I have also applied to Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds which is an external scholarship that pays for just the stipend. I recently heard that I did not receive the scholarship at St. John's which I'm very disappointed about, but now I'm starting to get a big worried. What if my opportunities for funding falls through?
I will hear from the other two scholarships by July. At this point, I'm doubtful that I will receive the FULL Cambridge International Scholarship as I can see on their website that many have been awarded already. Perhaps I will be given a fee reduction. So at this point, I'm depending heavily on receiving the Beohringer scholarship. I passed the first round of selection and according to what they told me, they will be selecting about 10 out of the 50 remaining candidates, which is pretty scary.
I think I would be absolutely devastated if I were not able to secure funding. I applied to two other schools in Europe, but I am unsure about my acceptance. Do you know of any other scholarships I can apply to? Or do you have any advice for a plan B? For example, I believe I can defer my acceptance by almost one year to gain some time for other funding opportunities. Any help here would be very welcome.
