  1. I'm really weighing my options right now. GW will be far more expensive but I think that DC will provide a really amazing experience. When all is said and done, I think I will still end up at FSU because of cost/my lease, but I'm trying to look at every possibility that I can in the next 24 hours to make the most informed decision!

You know my vote already, but I'll be happy for you no matter what! I was in the same boat with San Francisco, but I decided to do the 'financially responsible' thing in the end   Good luck with your decision!!!

  2. Just got my rejection today via email.. Here's an excerpt:

As many people ask, the average sores for this year’s admitted applicants are provided below:

    GPA 3.86

    GRE %iles

    Verbal: 72nd

    Quantitative: 59th

    Analytical: 69th

So I'm a little bummed about the rejection since I exceed all of those stats but I just hope that others were fortunate enough to accepted off of the wait list, especially if they had few or no other options.. But I'm still extremely happy that I will be going to my #1 choice, CSULA :) They also stated that there 39 openings for the program..

I was rejected from the waitlist today too! I'm kind of relieved honestly. Now I can focus on actually going to the school I said yes to! ;)

  3. Girl, I feel you there!  Congrats on SFSU - pretty awesome to get in there as an out-of-stater!  Keep in mind how expensive SF living costs are...... I lived there for the past 3 years and hated to leave, but I was amazed at how much money I really was spending on just living there now that I am living off way less in a more affordable city.  However, it's one of the most beautiful cities in the country (in my opinion, THE most beautiful), so it may be worth it!?  Could you go to FSU and then do your CFY in SF?  I have heard it's not that hard to get a CFY in another city/state.  But I am also currently deciding whether I should go the cheapest route or spend a little more..... Definitely a hard choice!

Something that helped me decide what amount of loans I can handle was to look at this calculater thing:

    http://www.finaid.org/calculators/loanpayments.phtml

It lets you see what kind of monthly payment you can expect.  I know there are alternative repayment plans, like income-based and whatnot, but I want to pay my loans off in 10 years if at all possible, so this was pretty helpful.

Good luck making your decision, I know it isn't easy!!!!!

I decided to go to FSU and save a ton of money lol. I spoke with a girl in the program at SFSU and she gave me some stellar advice. It really helped me make up my mind. My heart will always be in San Fran though! ;)

  4. I was wondering about you and SF! Congratulations!!

I decided purely off of $$$. Which one will cost you the least after considering tuition, moving, and living expenses in the area  ;)

Thanks!! Yeah, i'm leaning more towards FSU because I'll save so much money, but SF is my dream so I'm really having a hard time letting it go!

  5. Congrats!  Me too!!! I have no idea what to do either...

Does anyone know much about the SFSU program?  I have some connections to SFSU but no one in the CD department.  I'm hoping to somehow get time off and pay for a visit but not sure if it will be possible.

Congrats to you too! I would love to pick the brain of a current SFSU grad student, I might just e-mail the dept and ask if theres someone willing to talk to me lol. If we end up going to SFSU, you can be one of the 20 roommates I'm going to need in order to afford to pay rent!!  ;)

  6. Hi everyone. So about three weeks ago I was offered an assistantship at a school, and was told I would need to let them know within a few days if I would be taking the position and attending their school. They really emphasized that it was important to let them know asap since they need to fill the positions. Two days later, I told them through email that I would be accepting the position and attending their school. I wasn't ecstatic about attending there, but I figured it was such a great value and I couldn't pass it up. I sent in my deposit as well but it is refundable until April 15th.

So fast forward to now, I attended an open house at a school I didn't think I would like, but I ended up falling in love with it. I have decided that I will absolutely be attending this school and I sent in my deposit. I was wondering how I should approach the school I already committed to verbally, but now am not attending. Should I be honest and say I liked another school better? Should I be extremely apologetic and just say something vague like "another opportunity presented itself and I feel that I need to take it?" I feel guilty, but I also know this is something I need to do. I would love to hear other's opinions... Thank you :)

Don't feel guilty, it's your life, do what is best for you!!

  7. Very random, but has anyone considered buying a laminator for grad school? Now that I have officially made a decision (yay!), I am trying to make a list of things I will need.

Does having your own laminator seem practical, or too much?

I would wait because they might have one in the department for students to use. The one thing FSU mentioned that students are required to buy is a digital voice recorder. I would contact someone who went to the open house and ask if they mentioned any items that students need to get before the program starts :)

  8. Perhaps a second bachelors in CSD might help, USF offers one that only takes 3 semesters and its 100% online. You can also transfer 2 classes towards the program. Don't give up, it's not worth giving up when next year will come around and you're doing something you don't really want to do. Apply to a diverse group of programs, and consider moving if you have to. Do whatever it takes, but don't give up!

  9. Rejected from UCF today, but kicked butt during my interview for San Francisco State!!! The biggest piece of advice I can give anyone at this point is to apply to as many programs as financially possible! Give yourself some options, and remember that each school has a unique admissions process, and each program is looking for different things in each applicant. I have gotten rejected from schools I thought I would get accepted to, and have gotten in to or waitlisted at schools I never dreamed I would have a chance of being accepted to. This process makes absolutely no sense so never give up!

  10. I'm having such an impossible time deciding between UF and FSU. I'm an undergrad at UF now, and feel like I need a new experience.... but then again, UF has such a great reputation. Ah!

    FSUUUUU!!! I'm so biased  ;)

  11. I have my interview today! eek!  Good luck with your writing sample!

Relationships make this process so much more difficult.  I've been accepted where I live, but will have to consider SFSU and wait-list schools if I'm accepted to any of them. Would you gals be attempting the long distance thing if you left?

Thanks! I hope your interview went well! Mine is tomorrow. I just got home from doing the writing sample. I honestly have no idea how well I did, I hate writing under pressure! I've been accepted in-state, but not where I live (...yet, still waiting on FAU). My bf and I really got into it last night, crying and all. I'm so over this!! We spent our whole first year long distance so I know we can do it, I just don't want to. Whatever, whats meant to be will be!  B)

  12. Yes, I also received a voicemail message from Professor Ignatius Nip from SDSU. I'm very excited about this opportunity! Was wondering if anyone had thoughts on:

-hearing back from other Cal State schools

-why is this process so competitive?

-leaving a significant other (10 year relationship) to attend a 3 year long program on the other side of the state (i know, who wouldn't want to live in SD with great weather and surfing??)

Wow, i was worried about leaving a 4 year relationship! I have my writing sample for SFSU tomorrow and the google + interview on Wednesday  :o  Kinda freaked out. My mind is telling me to go to CA if i get the opportunity... my bank account is telling me to stay in-state!!!
