@fes_alum @GradGuy I admire you guys for being at the same age and going to grad schools. I am in the same age range as you and I shall be starting grad school in the Fall 2012. So Kudos to the 35+ Grad Club!!!!

I am 37 and I applied this year for Fall 2012. Will be going somewhere for PhD program this Fall. I wish I should have did it sooner though. Am I too old for grad school? Even though I feel too old for grad school, at the same time, I do not want to be a tech forever too.

I believe it is doable to get accepted into PhD program with sub-3.0 GPA. Mine was 2.9 from UCD and 3.46 Master from SFSU. My GRE score is in the 1200s, and I got accepted into my first PhD programs. I think I also have research experience that is really helpful. Although I got rejected to most top ranked programs.

What school that accept you? Is it UCR? Congratulation?

So what happened then, she continue and got her PhD anyway?

I don't know about that. I would imagine it will distract you from your study in grad school. Do you know of anyone who actually have kids during their grad school years? It is a very interesting topic.

I'm 37 and will be starting grad school away from the Bay Area, CA. At lease, it is still in CA. I'm married, but no kids and no mortgage to worry about. My wife is unemployed though and want to stay in the Bay Area to find jobs, which is an issue anyway. I will be leaving a well paid job also. So it is kind of a burden that need to be resolve. But it could be worse I guess.

Hi all, I thought it will be nice to start a thread representing people over 35 and applying or attending graduate school. I, myself, am over 35 and have applied to numberous Phd programs. I got accepted into one so far and planned to sacrifice my job and family to attend grad school in the Fall 2012. It will be a mix of excitement, anxiety, and fear mainly of financial reasons. Now who is with me in this club.

I will be 37 when I start grad school in the Fall. Will I be too old for getting a PhD program? I wish I could of start earlier in my life. What do you think? I am curious of how many people in the over 35+ club that is applying and going to graduate school.

I went to one interview and the faculty were more impressed at my research experiences than my age so it does not matter how old are you when starting grad school.

I am 37 when I will be starting grad school in Fall 2012. Got in. One acceptance from UCR so far. Yay!!

I am 37 by the time I get to grad school in the Fall 2012. Still waiting for other schools, but finally got admitted to one school for now. I am old and going to interview seemed weird because I am the oldest out of all the candidates. It may be a disadvantage as well as an advantage.

@Virion @Genomic Repairman So i contacted UCR and they say the offer deadline is April 15, but they want to know if I will accept their offer sooner than that. So should I accept it so that it will assured me of a spot or should I wait until April 15. I am nervous of waiting too long because this is my only admission offer out of 20 schools that I have applied. Has anyone of you accept your offer yet or will you wait out until April 15? This is only my opinion but I think all the graduate stipends for most of the schools are in the same ballpark, if not higher. So it all depend whether UC Riverside GGG is a good program or not? What is your opinions? -

@Virion So you mean I can wait until April 15 to accept their offer? And they cannot refute their offer to me until April 15. Can you accept now and decline later if their is a better school? Please let me know. Thanks -

Hi all, Just got an official acceptance from UC Riverside GGG program. This is great news considering all the rejections I have from UCD BMDB, Stanford Bioscience, UMich Pibs, UW GS, City of Hope, UCI CMB, and UCLA Access. Now come the real decision. How long do you have to accept their offer of admission? Can you technically wait until April 15 deadline? Will the funds ran out if I waited until April 15 to accept their offers. Please sincerely fill me in on this. Thanks
