Gracias ! I'll let you guys know how it went.

I just received an interview notification by e-mail from Vanderbilt! Will ask them to call me on Monday .

I thought all departments selected their candidates at the same time. DLLM sent out notifications two weeks ago.

Any news? Pas ici...

Then you should probably retake it. I guess it's different if your first language isn't English. Me, I'm hoping they'll make the connection between my low scores and the fact that English is not my mother tongue, then see from my sample that I don't suck that bad --Me too I had way higher scores in the quantitative sections...
-
I too screwed up! I studied so hard for nothing... I don't think it's a good idea to re-take it, but that's just my opinion. Can you follow-up with new scores? I didn't know that

I think they start notifying by the end of February. This week I started feeling very insecure--I guess it's normal. Are you guys being optimistic? Do you think about your applications all day long? Me, I can't even focus!

Risky indeed, but it makes little sense to apply to universities you have no interest in. Let's hope you make it! And yes, in Brown I applied to Hispanic Studies. In other universities I applied to Spanish and Portuguese because that's the program but my emphasis will be in Spanish anyway. Good luck

Hola Jocaco! Saludos!

I too am obsessed with a prof. at Brown (Julio Ortega)! I want to study the Spanish republican exiles' literary production in Mexico--so the Transatlantic approach is really what I'm after Besides Brown, where else are you applying?
-
Yep. He's working here now: http://www.unive.it/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=82503&pid=6839054

I too received bad news today: my application wasn't forwarded to SSHRC. The e-mail said that "there were too many applicants and not enough places," and that my application "was outstanding" --but I'm sure they always say that...
-
You're right. I have no idea but I wanted to work with him! I'll send an email just to be sure. I don't want to mention him in my SOP and not be considered just because he might be leaving...

Hola Mivas! Yo hago aplicaciones para Harvard, Berkeley, Columbia, Stanford, NYU, Brown, UPitt y Penn State.

¡Hola! Is anyone else applying to PhDs in Spanish/Hispanic Studies to start on Fall 2012? How is everybody doing with the applications?
-
Not me , now I have a bad feeling about it!

Hi guys! I noticed that this Topic hasn't been active since almost two years ago, but I'm optimistic that someone will read my question For a couple of applications, I'm being asked to enter all the relevant courses in my field and to specify in which quarter I took each course-- however, I'm not familiar with the quarter system so I'm completely clueless. I guess the American way of dividing the year is Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer, but the blank where I'm supposed to fill in the quarter is a numeric entry so what I need to know is the order in which I'm supposed to count them. Thanks!

I have a similar problem. I'm in the process of adding pages to one writing sample and since one of the books that I quote the most was taken from the library by someone else, I had to borrow a different edition. I have absolutely no idea how to quote. I think I've seen somewhere year:pages (1975:163), but I'm not really sure. Do you guys know? Thanks in advance!

Hello Canadians! I am having trouble deciding what to include in the Credentials section. These are the instructions: List up to six (6) scholarships, fellowships, prizes, and other academic awards you have received and think would be most pertinent to the adjudication of your application. Specify the source for each (e.g., international, federal, provincial or territorial government department, university, private sector or community organization, etc.), year, value and duration, as applicable. Do not include teaching assistantships in this section. Note: You may not append an additional page. I guess I should only include scholarships based on academic merit. So, for example, an Explore scholarship is not pertinent... But is financial aid based on gpa + financial need relevant? Or, for example, for Québec residents, does the "bourse" percentage awarded by AFE count?
