You have a similar sort of interests as I do (is that sentence even English?) I also would call myself an intellectual historian, but I'm smack dab in the middle of religion and history. I work with Modern Europe, though, but I'm wondering if my inherently interdisciplinary interests are going to be a problem for programs.
  2. If you already have an MDiv, an MTS would not make any sense. You would likely want to look at ThD and PhD programs, or I know that there is also a ThM for students who already have an MDiv but want a little bit more work (I believe the programs are usually only about a year, but funding may not be available.) With an MDiv, you would certainly want to look toward doctoral applications and perhaps taking coursework specific to remedying any weaknesses (maybe take some language courses, or whatever else you feel is missing?)

Well actually, if any of us become hotshot professors, THEN Yale will come scoop us away from whatever school we are in.

Didn't Yale say something about receiving an official rejection letter later, too? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, because that would take a LOT of paper.

I got accepted to UVA later yesterday as well. There seems to be even less information on the acceptance letter than even Wisconsin provided. At least this restores my faith that when a PA seems really interested in your work, they are not always lying. I got such an enthusiastic response over there that I was crushed to think that I was rejected anyways.

Are all the UVA admits so far Americanists?

    U Penn

Nothing yet...and I really, really hope your information is wrong! That seems awfully early for a visitation day.
  9. I was pretty heavy into Mock Trial and Youth and Government when I was in high school. The people that knew me then would probably be shocked to find that I am not a lawyer now. I didn't want all that crazy competitiveness, constant stress and fear....oh wait...

That's exciting...I would probably do it. I'm so glad I got my Master's first because it gave me a much better SOP, better LORs, and tons more language work. And it's freaking Yale, and they are paying you...hard to say no to that.

Well, unfortunately I can't have any fun. I'm already in a graduate program. Came from my bachelor's to my master's and now direct to a doctoral program...fun has already died. I am surprised about the TA thing. I was not aware that was the norm for first-year students.

And the middle of the week seems to be more inactive anyways, so is it going to be slow until the end of this week? UVA should be getting ready soon also. Who knows what Brown is doing..? I am not sure that Harvard is done with admits. There were several posted last year, and one would imagine that there are MORE people coming here now. I feel like a couple more might come out soon.

The mass emails are usually misleading, anyways. They will usually say something like "decisions will be available in mid-March" when what it really means is that "we will wait until mid-March to get around to rejecting people. Accepted students have known for weeks."

I would also like more results soon! I was so wrong in predicting that yesterday would be a big day. At least when I came home, I had TWO envelopes and I freaked out with joy. However, only one had input. BTW how common is it for grad students to immediately serve as TAs? I had never seen that at any program, but maybe I just didn't notice? I thought students usually had to do a year or two of classes first.

It is March 20-22. I'd really like to see Madison, because everyone just gushes over how great it is.

I saw the Wisconsin pictures of last year's welcome weekend...everyone seemed to have giant beers!

    History 2010

Exactly what freaked me out. When the envelope came, I was so excited to think that it would have some sort of financial information. When I contacted the grad student person a few days ago, she said funding decisions would be made in the next two weeks. There are several Wisconsin admits on here, so I imagine that if fellowships start going out, someone might hear something. Wisconsin seems to fund in part based on test scores, and that is one thing I've really got going for me, so I'm hoping for the best.

    History 2010

That's the thing, though. The trip is not free if you are not funded, and the response form was actually if you were ATTENDING the school. Kind of strange to send those out before the funding situation is clarified.

    History 2010

Did anyone else admitted to Wisconsin receive a not-so-helpful packet in the mail? There was an itinerary for the visiting weekend and a form asking us to say if we planned on attending the program or not, but it does not seem like they are even finished determining funding, so the timing is kind of strange. I'm starting to feel a little frustrated with the way they do things because I have a pretty good fit there. I would rather wait to get accepted until they had a reasonable idea about funding rather than wait an extra month and a half or something to find out, especially when everything they send in the mail is not very helpful at all.

If any of you are applying to programs where you currently attend, how do you handle seeing professors who you know are reviewing your application? I have someone who wants me to stop by to discuss a paper from last semester, but I'm terrified of doing or saying the wrong thing at this point. It's not someone from my own department, so I don't have to see this person regularly, but I don't know if asking me to stop by was a good thing? Or a way to tell me nicely in person it's a no? This talking to people/not talking to people issue is really getting old...I'm naturally a very talkative and friendly person!

    History 2010

That is quite impressive. I was going the route of keeping my last semester easy, since I'll likely have to prepare to move. But this means I am in one massive lecture class that even has a lot of undergrads, so I feel like I have no work at all. I AM supposed to be working on revising an essay for possible publication, but since that essay is also my writing sample, I can't stand to look at that thing right now.

And is anyone else finding it impossible to get any work done? For one of my classes, I read the wrong book, then when I realized my mistake, read the entire book for something we were only supposed to read a couple of chapters from (and it was the sort of book one did not want to read in its entirety). This weekend, I found a response paper in my folder that I had forgotten to even pass in. I suddenly can't spell. I don't want to make eye contact with any professors, because I'm convinced they are all watching me and thinking about what to do with me and my application....

    History 2010

And this is such a rotten year for applying to fully-funded programs. On a positive note, Minnesota did send me an email regarding visiting weekend, so at least I feel the "love" in some small way. I have still not corresponded with either of my potential advisors, though, and what worries me is that I wrote to my potential advisor in Wisconsin several days ago and I haven't heard anything. He always responded quickly before, so now I'm getting paranoid that I was admitted without funding. Or I don't know if he refrains from responding BECAUSE they are in the middle of funding talk. At any rate, I keep feeling like everything I'm doing is wrong somehow. I don't understand this weird competitive, close-to-the-vest, quasi-politness thing.

    History 2010

This is true, but it seems like there should be a couple more admits. Or maybe everyone who gets into Harvard does not visit this site because they know how awesome they are? Is anyone else in mortal terror? Things have been too quiet for too long. And I've had to grudgingly admit to myself that I DO have a top choice, based on how terrible I will feel if I get rejected from them.
  25. Nytusse

    History 2010

Well, there were only a couple of admits posted. I wouldn't think they are quite done. I think Harvard and UPenn might do some admits today. Gulp.
