Well, the way I figure it, at least it softens the blow to see "accepted" and "rejected" together at once from Chicago; even if it is the notorious master's program, at least you got into Chicago, right?
-
I think this stupid snow is burying just about every school I applied to...nothing like prolonging the agony a little more.
-
I have a similar problem, but the reverse. I am the first person in my family to go to college, and I'm finishing my Master's now at a very good school, so my family is just mystified as to why I am too good to stay at this school for my PhD. They don't understand that getting into a top doctoral program is about as likely as winning the lottery. But, because nobody understands how competitive this is, I feel like I will look like a failure if I don't get into a real "name brand" place because that is all they will recognize.

Being in school AND waiting for application results is just wrong. I don't want to do stuff, I don't want to listen to people, I just want ANSWERS! I'm graduating this May, and that isn't even on my mind. It will only be a stopover, not a real accomplishment.

Well, whoever bet on Illinois was correct. One acceptance up.
-
Is anyone else getting increasingly terrified to check their inboxes? This is a scary week: emphatic acceptances and equally emphatic NOs.
-
No Yale for me, either. I was expecting a waitlist perhaps, but outright rejection.
-
Is anyone here the UPenn admit? What is your field?
-
I know that last year there were a few people (in agony) on the waitlist for Yale, but maybe they are having a more extensive waitlist this year? Yale waitlist must be like purgatory...
-
Well, the troubling feeling of doom may have to do with the looming Yale reject-a-thon which is likely to ensue over the next few days.
-
And this is universally depressing...it seems like most of us have applied to Yale.
-
That sounds kind of nice right now. I think that was my plan B if I got no acceptances.
-
I dreamed about Yale last night too, because I was 100% certain that the first acceptance was going to come today. And it did, and no email for me yet. Maybe that first person was just a very early notification; it could be that next week is the big Yale week.

A funny thing happened regarding the Minnesota admit. They said they would send me a funding package in a few days, so yesterday, I got a giant envelope with History written on it. The postmark was in Minnesota. I got myself all excited, then I realized it was from the History Channel. I thought I was going to get input. Oh, and Wisconsin sent me a second small letter to tell me that I was really, really accepted (the grad school approved it). That provided no new information.

So after the Yale history result, and then a Yale person getting rejected via website just now (yes, it was for astronomy, but it still means that the WEBSITE CAN SAY STUFF)... I almost passed out waiting for my rejection, but there's still a whole lot of nothing going on in the website. This is kind of gross. Things need to start happening consistently and quickly before I lose my mind.

University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota. Minnesota has said that there will be funding, Wisconsin has not said a peep yet.
-
I got that email too, and I pretty much convinced myself that meant something good, until I realized that NONE of those extra funds even applied to me!

It's weird that nobody seems to get accepted to Chicago on this board considering that they seem to have a slightly higher acceptance rate than the Ivies. I haven't heard anything, but because nobody seems to get accepted, I think I have been thinking that I would not get accepted, either, even though it is probably one of the better fits for my interests.
-
Yale is a long shot for just about everyone, from what I gather. I'm also modern Europe, but Germany. Is anyone applying to UChicago? I never really hear people talk about it on this board, and I never see anyone get accepted, so I'm beginning to think that their history program is a figment of my imagination.
-
Are you modern European history?
-
I honestly have no idea what schools are going to take me. One that I thought for sure would reject me has accepted me, so now what? Anything at all could happen at any time! I don't know, I think a good program admits a few tomorrow....! I am so desperate for information, data, contact, so that I can figure out how the heck I'm going to sell my house and move to wherever.
-
Yeah, I saw the Stanford too. Last year, several Yale admits came right around this time. I feel like I can't even breathe anymore.
-
Well, if it makes you feel any better, one of my professors cited Notre Dame as an example of a school that is great but the living conditions are so bad that it just isn't worth it.
-
That was me, and I'm in modern European history. I got an email from the graduate director saying that I would get funding and travel reimbursement information in a couple of days.
-
I agree...it seems like the admits to the top programs hear in early or mid-February, and then the rejections come late February to early March. I feel like if I don't hear anything by about the 15th of February, that would be a good reason to worry.
