  1. To those waiting: the email I received seemed personalized. The acceptances from Jan/Feb seemed to be for external MA's. So, I imagine that they have plenty of acceptances still to hand out for BA's, particularly if the figure listed on their website (40 acceptances) is accurate. Don't give up hope.
  2. Thanks guys! As you can see by my post on the results board, I did not have the best grades/test scores. This was the last program I was waiting to hear from after being rejected by 10 others. I'm in disbelief. Good luck to all of those waiting!
  3. With 6 acceptances up, I don't like my chances.
  4. I'm starting to think all of the acceptances might be out. The latest decision posted on the results board claims that the "Acceptance letter says the admissions rate was about 9% for the department." How could they calculate this figure if there were acceptances still to be made? And at the risk of offending the person who made that post, how could Purdue's MA program be the first choice of someone in the 99th percentile on the GRE with a 4.0 undergrad GPA? I am still "under review" as an MA applicant, BTW.
  5. For poetry makes nothing happen: it survives In the valley of its making where executives Would never want to tamper, flows on south From ranches of isolation and the busy griefs, Raw towns that we believe and die in; it survives, A way of happening, a mouth. - W.H. Auden, "In Memory of W.B. Yeats"
  6. And just when I was starting to think that no news was good news, I'm toast.
  7. FWIW, I am a modernist. After Ohio State rejected me weeks after their rejections started trickling out, I am under no delusion that my lack of response from UT means anything.
  8. Is there any logical reason for trickling the rejections out like this? I assume they are sending out a generic email. Why then are they torturing us like this?
  9. I still haven't heard anything. How many of us are there?
  10. I applied to Purdue's MA program since they require an MA for their PhD program. I'm wondering if those decisions are released separately. Based on the results board, it seems like not many people apply/get in to the master's program.
  11. I still haven't heard. I'm assuming it's a matter of time before I get my rejection. FWIW, I'm at the end of the alphabet.
  12. Just checked my status. REJECTED. My heart just sank. Why did they have to give me 2 weeks of false hope?
  13. I was just kidding. If it was actually only offered to 10 people, even though there is no way I would go, that's still pretty cool.
  14. Whoa, so I was one of the ten offered the chance to spend $41,000? Consider me honored.
  15. First wait list notification just went up. I don't know why I am still holding out hope.
  16. I did my undergrad at South Carolina. I was more than satisfied with the education I received from the English department. In fact, I feel that it is an underrated program. I found some of the more recent hires, in particular, to be outstanding. I am not in comp lit, but let me know if you have any questions about the department in general.
  17. Jbarks, may I ask why you have Indiana listed as an implicit rejection? It seems as though they are not done. I think they just notified fellowship recipients early.
  18. Transcendental, would Ohio State be a more appealing choice for you than Fordham? I also see you have Illinois and Indiana on your list. Those are my last two possibilities other than OSU. Really nervous about those.
  19. I've given up on trying to make heads or tails out of this. During the past week, I have been obsessively scouring through results from prior years, but there doesn't really seem to be a discernable parallel I can draw. The biggest positive is that, compared to past cycles, it definitely seems as though there have been less acceptances handed out at this point in the year.
  20. They seem done to me. Why would they have already wait listed people if they were going to accept more?
  21. AhabsAdmissionLetter, I'm right there with you bro. Michigan was my dream program. It was the perfect fit for me. I'm not really fazed by most of my rejections, but this one still stings.
  22. I just wish I could decipher something from that email response. A positive way of viewing it: there are several more acceptances to go out. Everyone who is "in review" will either be accepted or wait-listed. A negative way of viewing it: there are no more acceptances. those of us "in review" are fighting for the wait-list spots.
  23. I am interested in this too. I have been accepted to the master's programs I applied to and roundly rejected from the PhD programs, so I'll probably be going through this process again in 2 years. I'd love to have a concrete list of schools that don't look favorably upon an M.A. So far Boston seems to be the biggest stickler. I've heard some rumblings about Michigan. Is this true? It's one of my dream programs, and I'd like to reapply there in 2 years if possible. Also, if you have any anecdotal evidence regarding schools accepting a large share of M.A. holders, I would love to have that info. I found a post claiming that UT-Austin has started taking more M.A. students than B.A. I haven't seen that substantiated. I really appreciate it.
  24. Great. Another acceptance up. Urbana might be my last gasp....
