  1. And now, another grad funding opportunity looks to be in danger of cuts. Has anyone else here heard about the funding cuts the NSF might get in August -- specifically the Social, Behavioral and Economic (SBE) directorate? Here's a piece about it from the psychology community: https://www.capwiz.com/fabbs/issues/alert/?alertid=51170521 "In recent weeks, a number of U.S. House and Senate members have been critical of the National Science Foundation, especially the agency’s funding of research in the social sciences. One Senator specifically called for the elimination of the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate at NSF. Over the next several weeks, the U.S. House will vote on the appropriations bill that funds NSF. Amendments are expected to be offered during the full appropriations committee’s consideration of the bill scheduled for July 13 and again the first week in August when the bill is expected to reach the House floor."

  3. My scores were 96 and 99 and I haven't received word from my coordinator about forwarding my materials. When she e-mailed us about the Mellon news, she said she'd let us know as soon as she got any other info, so I'm assuming I'm not being considered. Although my project is more humanities focused, I was under the impression we needed to score over 100 to be competitive. I'll post if anything changes, but I'm not holding my breath on this.
  4. In the same boat. I'm finishing up fieldwork and just got word I'll probably not be funded for my writing year. No TAship, no RAship, nada. I'm wondering if I should just take a leave from school next year so I don't have to pay tuition -- just get a part-time job and write the rest of the time. Any thoughts? I'd welcome any ideas/brainstorming on self-funding. Maybe we can start a new thread for that if one doesn't exist...
