I took a year off to go to community college for art and only art. But the courses I took at my university that were art courses were Drawing 1, Painting 1 and I audited Figure Painting. I only took one art history course. Haha.

I'm going to University of Wisconsin Madison. Also for the sake of future applicants I will say that my undergrad I finished at an Ivy League one year ago and I majored in philosophy. My choices in colleges depended on a desire to find a major university with great philosophy reputation so that I coud take a class if I wanted. I did apply to art schools just in case though. I am very happy overall. Full ride is hard to beat. Oh yeah, I spent five years in NYC so I'm glad/willing to leave for awhile and come back later. It was very difficult to decline Rutgers but overall I'm ok with it. Anyone going to Wisc should PM me. Wee!!!

Well I had the chance to visit the art bldg., sit in on a class with Stephen Westfall and go on a tour with Anine. She's quite cute and overall helpful. So I went to undergrad. at Columbia and I've seen their studios and comparatively Rutgers is about as good as it gets in the East Coast as far as the sizes of the studios go. But the overall bldg feels cramped and small because there are a lot of departments in one shared bldg. (I think it was some kind of program irrelevant to art...think business or economics). I think I was a little rushed when I took the tour in one day, or at least it felt that way because the previous week I spent a whole week in Madison touring the town and the University of Wisconsin. So I was probably primed for low expectations since I loved the serenity and cuteness of Madison. As a resident of Brooklyn, I envy the space and quiet of places outside major cities. So that beings said, I didn't make many impressions of Rutgers. The class I sat in on was really intense. Not in a bad way though. Just like my undergrad days in good ol' philosophy classes talking about metaphysics and simultaneity and Spinoza. So you should expect high academic standards. The critiques are sophisticated as are the faculty and students. Anywho, its damn close to NY so what can you expect from an art school in NJ?

I think its a great program. It is very renowned because of the faculty and there was recently a large sum of money given to the art school to hire some one of importance in the art world, this being Catherine Murphy. People say its a cheap or affordable school but the fact is that is it one of the most expensive state schools in the state of NJ. However, in comparison to other schools in the surrounding a it can be advertised as an affordable school without too much exaggeration. I like the faculty because I'm a painter. The students are making great work, I think. Did you get accepted? What program?
