  1. It was definitely fake. Someone (I believe Molly Rowland) posted that she heard from Theresa that we are supposed to hear early in the week--so enjoy your weekend!
  2. Annnnnd I feel like and id for posting before reading all the way through. Darn trolls. For all wondering, THAT is exactly why the spreadsheet isn't editable by everyone.
  3. My response to this was "shit" (sorry) shortly followed by happy feelings of congratulations for you...does not getting notified today mean they're sending out rejections later...? I'm guessing... Congrats! I hope I'll be joining you in happy land.
  4. ETAs also have to find their own housing--with varying levels of assistance from the school in finding it--and pay for it out of their monthly stipend.
  5. AUSTRIA US TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP (not an official Fulbright program, but partially Fulbright funded and many of the Germany ETAs on this forum applied for it as well: after deductions for compulsory health/accident insurance and Austrian income tax, net monthly stipend of about €1050/$1450. No support for dependents, no reimbursement for travel expenses to/from Austria. GERMANY ETA: monthly stipend of €800 PLUS insurance (have looked at the benefits explanation, it's crappy and basically only for emergencies) and reimbursement for travel expenses to/from Austria. Austria's the better deal, but I'd rather be in Germany. I applied to both.
  6. I legit LOLed at your comment...but isn't the whole point of this board that it's a place we can angst, present ridiculous theories, make unfounded predictions, etc. together precisely because we DON'T have any information? And technical point, a lot of people HAVE found out information by calling and emailing (information that would previously have been on your list as "things no one on this board knows") so it's not all entirely futile moaning.
  7. Any other Germany ETAs see the post from the Fulbright Program facebook page as a sign that perhaps today is the Germany day? Or am I ridiculous? Just had a long conversation with one of my parents about what I'm doing this summer if I get it/what I'm doing all year if I don't. Why do I have to think about this?
  8. That would be so fantastic...I have to turn in a really awful paper on a book-length poem, and notification would be a good reward.
  9. For some reason, I have this overwhelming feeling that I'm going to get an email (Germany ETA) in the next couple of hours. Crazy, or reasonable? We'll see. If not today, my money's on Thursday.
  10. Fulbright=perhaps more well-known/prestigious then DAAD grants (at least outside of German-studying circles). If that is something that matters to you, and everything between the two grants is equal, then it would be a reason to choose the Fulbright. Is the funding for the two grants exactly the same?
  11. CONGRATULATIONS! Good job! I'm hoping this means that MY Germany email comes today!
  12. Have to say, while I heartily congratulate T-Pain, if this email really applies to all countries, then I'm kind of skeptical that he was accepted via postal mail...especially since it's super early and no one else has heard.
  13. I've been calling my parents constantly about the mail...just want my notification to come! Ideally it'll come in about a week and a half, while I'm home on spring break, because if I'm not selected I really don't want to find that out over the phone with my parents...
  14. PS You can look at last year's spreadsheet, people described what kind of envelope/media their acceptance came in.
  15. As far as I know, Germany (and most programs) notify via mail to permanent address. I believe that the UK may have some kind of early notification system. It seems like the program works a little bit differently (all of the UK applicants had interviews, for example) so maybe they send an email and then a letter. I almost wish that Germany would notify via email. Whether I'm accepted or rejected for the ETA, either way I would prefer to process the news on my own before I share with anyone, but instead I'm going to have to have my father open the envelope on the phone with me, and he'll know at the same time I do.
  16. This. Obviously, the people represented on this board (I'll speak about Germany ETA specifically, since that's what I applied for) are significantly less than even 50% of the total applicants for the positions. Theoretically, all of us represented on the board could be awarded the Germany ETAs we've been recommended for. Statistically it's not realistic. As a nice person, I like the idea of everyone getting the grant they applied for, realistic or not. I hope that I'll be meeting ALL of the Germany ETA applicants on here at the orientation in the fall.
  17. The spreadsheet has been updated! Go nuts, guys. And good luck to everyone who is supposed to hear in the next couple of months! I mailed part two of my application for the Germany ETA this past Friday, and expect to hear by early-mid April...This is going to be a tough month and a half!
  18. Hi everyone--my apologies. I've been swallowed up by midterms etc. and I haven't really had time to get to the spreadsheet. This weekend, though!
  19. Yeah, there are two places on my college campus that take passport photos and print them for you, so check and see if your school has something like that. A pharmacy or full service post office usually can too.
  20. I think you're supposed to glue the photos to the application form. I'm planning to just staple the pages of the form (each copy separately) and then paperclip them in packets with the essays...if that makes sense. And then stick them in an envelope. I applied for the Austria ETA and sent everything priority mail, so I will probably do that again to ensure it doesn't get hung up (I know we're NOT allowed to do Express mail).
  21. If you read up a few pages in the forum, someone emailed the PAD and they said it was ok to translate. They just need the essays in German rather than English.
  22. It's for GERMANY ETA only. We have extra documents etc. that we have to submit to German authorities. So don't worry
  23. Oh, duh...that makes a lot of sense.
  24. It's definitely not a scan of your passport. I'm just getting passport photos taken (they do it on campus at my university) and attaching them. The one thing I'm confused about is that it says photo with name...I've never seen a passport style photo with a name printed on it so I'm not sure how we're supposed to do that. Does anyone have any insight?
  25. I didn't think you were cocky...I am planning to be in Germany too, no matter what, but I'd still be too afraid to buy the ticket! Other thing is that I know they only reimburse up to a certain amount...don't remember what the amount is.
