This is true! I still have an obviously diminished chance compared to some. I just don't have the academic record for these schools unless they are REALLY impressed by my writing. & thank you. My fellowship is just a nomination now, though... I'm up against people in other departments, and I feel like science folks will always win these kinds of things. But if I don't get it they will offer me the regular TA. I am very happy with it. I hope yours is coming soon! I don't think any of us can survive the wait much longer... -

I'm sure my application was looked at for no more than 60 seconds. I really applied to Vandy, Duke, Chicago, and NYU just because I'm a masochist. I know realistically that these schools do not want me, but... but. but. -

It looks like Vanderbilt has kept a secret waitlist in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing this again... we haven't seen any acceptances or real wait lists yet though, either, so if you've not rejected yet... well, yay. -

I wouldn't say that! Vandy takes like 2%. I wouldn't take a rejection from a school of that caliber (or, really, from any school) as a reflection of any of your other chances. It's still super early! -

Glad somebody finally got to see it! it is a little anticlimactic after all those posts, but put that ish in full screen and, as always, stare at the middle for even more good times. -

I'm not sure if the overall program was a good fit for me, but I would have loved to have worked with Colin Dayan. Oh wells. It was a reach school for sure. -

To quote someone from last year, and a great pop icon of our time: "It's definitely not a Nashville party." -

No, but I used to have like every Gia Carangi Vogue ever because I found them for $2 each, but I sold all of them except the infamous Nov '80 track mark issue. That I still have and probably won't sell for a long time. Other than evidence of that particular moment in pop culture, I try not to own too many expensive things that I have to carry around when I move. For this reason, the best edition of a book is the cheapest edition! -
