  1. jobs jobs jobs capitalism jobs ETA: I'm just teasing you, of course.
  2. ASFUIHASJDPAOSIDJASDOIASJDASODIASJDAS CONGRATS! YOU ARE AMAZING.
  3. Oh, just one more thing to freak-out about, but have we always been able to view the GRE/GPA/etc of people on the results board who choose to submit them (by hovering over the red diamond)? I didn't realize this until now!
  4. I checked the handy link in my signature, and it looks like the others schools that did them last year are Notre Dame, UMass, and Stanford.
  5. I think only one or two other programs do - it's pretty rare! I hope...
  6. Don't say that yet! Just because they sent one invite doesn't mean they sent them all.
  7. I didn't apply there, but it looks like Emory interview invites went out today. Anybody want to claim one?
  8. You guys are all the best! If anyone else applied to WV, don't give up yet: I think I was notified so early because the fellowship deadline is looming and I have some paperwork. Don't worry- it will happen! I cannot enjoy success alone so now I'm just nervous for everyone else. It is certainly a heavy weight lifted often my solders to get this news, but the anxiety is still present. I'm sure you'll all know soon because yours news is coming. It's just so early. I can't believe how early this is - when I applied to MFA and MAs 3 years back, I didn't get a funded offer until the last week of March. Aww, thanks. This does look like a very good offer and it's clear that they really like me, which is a great feeling. I may also just be having some early luck. We'll see - final decisions are so far away!
  9. I updated it as soon as I could pause long enough to fill it out! I don't have any more up votes (Apparently they don't start over at midnight?), but thanks for all the support, you guys.
  10. THANK YOU. I have resumed breathing!
  11. I just got a nomination for a fellowship at West Virginia. It looks like an acceptance. What am I supposed to do!? It's started. I love you all so please share good news asap.
  12. YOU GUYS YOU GUYS YOU GUYS I just got an e-mail nominating me for a fellowship at West Virginia University. It says if I don't get the fellowship I still get a GTA. Did I just get an acceptance? I cannot breathe.
  13. Here is a photo of the new Princeton dorms.
  14. Thanks for the good will! I hope you get in everywhere! Yay.
  15. Here is a list of schools that peeped in January last year: Duke, Emory, NYU, Northwestern, Penn State, Stony Brook, UC Riverside, Georgia, Kansas, Louisville, and Wayne State. Half of my schools notified be the second week of February. It is both too soon and too far in the future.
  16. But I applied there and that is terrifying. I just got an e-mail today saying that my file was complete. Today is the deadline! They can't be that quick! scared
  17. No, but YES. Wishbone is the best children's TV show. Children need to get watching that again. I played through an entire Wishbone computer game version of The Odyssey as a kid (google informs me that apparently in 1997 I was *too cool* for wizards but in 1996 I was playing Wishbone video games - gosh, childhood is quick). Also, Wishbone remains my entire frame of reference for Cyrano de Bergerac and The Prince and the Pauper.
  18. Of course these are all things that I want to read! I will get to them, adcoms & those who love these authors and works, I will! I also suspect that I have a latent Medievalist bent hiding in me just WAITING for me to read Chaucer. We'll see!
  19. Okay, okay, I lose again. It came out at a time when I was still a kind but ~too cool for wizards~ because I was into Hanson. After that, it just never happened. It feels like too big of a project. A friend of mine works at Universal, and he had to take a Harry Potter class. True story.
  20. I certainly know that *I* would read this board if I were on an adcom. I'd be more surprised if they didn't! I think I'm pretty identifiable if you look hard enough. I hope my Heathers icon + love for animated gifs + recent admission that I haven't read any of The Canterbury Tales aren't going to cause me too many problems.
  21. I've never seen or read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I know at least Harry Potter doesn't count for this game, but it definitely loses me a million pop culture points. As far as the really canonical stuff that I've skipped, I know almost nothing about The Canterbury Tales. This was really helpful on the subject GRE. I need to just take a Chaucer class already! I also have not read any Oscar Wilde and I've only read one little James Joyce story. Blah!
  22. Alright*, I'm taking bets on which school will make the first January notification and when they will do it. *"Alright" is a word. Wanna fight about it?
  23. Not to cause panic, but I've been advised not to mention a "love of literature"... It's a given. I didn't mention the job market, either. I did mention my teaching in longer SOPs, though.
  24. When have you EVER, in the history of time, received handwritten notes from a professor that were legible? Chicken scratch is the norm. Embrace it. One the other hand, you could type them up up and print, or better yet, compile them ransom-note-style.
