  1. An estimation is just that, an estimation, no guarantee that it would fall in that range though I have to admit that I was surprised to see that people's scores fell below the lowest estimation. I don't know the way they score these tests so there are possibly variations in scoring that are out of the ETS's control. Maybe it would have been best if the ETS never gave the estimation, but then people would be whining about not knowing anything for 2-3 months.
  2. Verbal: 156 (estimated 540-640; corresponding: 560) Quant: 154 (estimated 660-760; corresponding: 690) AW: 3.5 (29%) Got above my minimum estimates on both. Which apparently is rare here, but the majority of the scores reported were in the 90% so maybe there's more variation at the upper tiers than anywhere else. AW sucked. Knew it would. On one essay I argued the question even though I knew I shouldn't, but it peeved me off too much to not correct them. Good thing most schools don't care about it. Also, I don't know how different the scoring system is. To me it looks like they just changed the scoring scale so there wouldn't be as much of difference between the standard deviation of verbal and quant. This also may have been why they changed it to 130-170. Now both scores matches both percentiles.
  3. math has to be done with pen/pencil and paper if you don't have a stylus type laptop. everything else i do with my laptop if i can. this is completely a personal preference because: 1. i type faster than i write 2. i don't pay attention when i'm taking notes, meaning i don't remember the notes i take and while i'm taking notes i don't pay attention to what is being said. so doing it fast on the laptop allows me to read the information i'm typing and to participate in class discussion. 3. when i have to look back at my notes i can actually read it 4. in case classmates needs notes i can easily email them it instead of having to lend out my notebooks (time saver).
  4. don't you find that the restriction of using words until it is listed in the "dictionary" is completely arbitrary? slang or vernacular forms of language has always existed. If a guy came up to me and started speaking the way Shakespeare wrote I wouldn't understand half the things he said, but I guess he would still technically be correct in his usage. my high school english teacher said that he always had a book on the usage of commas on him in case he had to argue with his professors, which apparently he had on several occasions and won. While being in command of language is important, the english language has many more caveats than I would like, while acceptable procedures in math is the same regardless of region.
  5. i agree with most parts. just wanted to clarify on this statement. the revised test states that it adjusts questions section by section instead of by each individual question. i would still encourage a person to review the material, i think studying for the math portion will have greater benefit than studying the verbal section. the only math class i've taken in college was calc in freshmen year, and then i studied and tutored psyche of stats. so it's been 3-4 years since i've dealt with these types of questions.
  6. is it bad that i'm hoping that i get a 3-3.5 on my AW? lol. i totally had a brain cramp. my writing is usually a 3/6 all through my life since grade school, but this one...jeez, i'm thinking 2 range... i'm happy most schools i look at don't even have a min/avg listed for AW, just V and Q.
  7. holy crap. i had nothing that looked like that. i don't think i even used the distance formula on mine. quant: 660-760 so maybe if you get almost all of them right on the first test you'll get stuff like this on the 2nd section. i assume if you get those questions right you'd be in the 700-800 range.
  8. just took mine this morning V: 530-630 Q: 660-760 AW: messed that up horribly. i also got the extra section in math which i was okay with. i thought i did about the same on both but was happily surprised with the math score.
