Final Decision Thread
SibylVane replied to Galoup11's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Turned down an ECF today, hopefully it gets passed along! I'm still in limbo between UW-Madison and McGill University... ugh, what nice problems to have, I suppose. (And Synecdoche and Douglas Adams both rock hard core.) -
Ha, I live down the street from Union Pool! By the way, have ya'll discovered the Alligator Lounge? Its right around there, and, get this: free personal pizza with each and every drink! 'Tis a great place to stumble to when the munchies set in but the drinking must continue...

Loves me some L train. Once saw a performance of act 3, scene 1 from Romeo and Juliet in full. When Mercutio died, they guy just lay there, completely still, on the frightening floor of the L, for the next 10 min of the scene. Shall miss this city

CUNY FL12 Acceptance
SibylVane replied to TripWillis's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Well, as we know, CUNY accepts a large cohort, and a good one too, so we can assume that quite a number of the best (ECF-funded) candidates will drop. I assume that's what happened with me receiving the fellowship today, and as decision time gets closer I'm betting more and more will drop and more ECFs will be re-issued. So I wouldn't count it out yet! (Although, good lord, this is one damn expensive city) Edit: I apologize, I misread your post as being on the waitlist for funding. Still, same principle likely applies. Excited for Madison! -

Oo, really great choices, I don't envy you! -
I can't decide whether to listen to my head or my heart, neither of which have been completely reliable.... I'm oscillating between the program that would be best for my career in the long run, and the one that sounds like a exciting romantic adventure in the short run (which still has good job prospects, but slightly less so.) It's a battle royale between logic and passion!

CUNY FL12 Acceptance

Not that's how you coax a student! What do you study marlowe, and which schools are you favoring at the moment? -
University of Washington

Didn't mean to get anyone's hopes down... let us not forget how notoriously weird UW is about notifying. I remember two years ago during my first round of PhD applications, I was rejected from UW in Feb, but my friend didn't get her acceptance until the third week of March! Chins up and march on, oh scholar-soldiers! -

myriadways, are you going to the UW-Madison welcome events too? I'm curious: what is your specialty, and which way are you leaning between the two programs? -

I wasn't going to go to the open house, because they still hadn't given me any info re: funding, and I've been offered good money elsewhere. But today, FINALLY, they tell me I got the ECF (guessing someone withdrew?) So I'll be there too (no long journey, I live in Brooklyn) - looking farward to seeing everyone there! -

I just saw someone post an acceptance via website so I looked too - it said "Application Status: Offer" -
I rarely post, but I saw your comment Horatio and I wanted to give you hope! I did somehow get an offer to their English PhD and am 80% sure I will be turning it down. Did they let you know your spot on the wait list? Good luck!

Also seeking decision advice from you wise sages of grad cafe, and happy to offer my own wisdom to anyone looking at UCLA, UC Berkeley, or NYU, where I got my degrees. royo - you have some outstanding choices there, but I will say Cal is one hell of a place to study!
