  1. Two Universities, both admitted with full funding, so money is not a concern.. Academic/mutual interest: Univ A: highly reputation in my major; big and strong program; not closely linked to my past work, but the way they evaluate a problem makes me feel cogenial; flexible, encourage student to have several co-advisors; more coursework. Univ B: also highly reputation, but not as high as A; small program with huge amount of research grant, people there very productive; more closely linked to my past work, the part of work I am interested in is the part where the potential advisors want add an student, so I could start doing research very early; very few coursework; encourage student to collaborate with different faculty members. Advisor: Univ A: Very kind. A senior one. everyone I talked to saying good words for him. Very understanding, considerate, and he also likes my country and can speak my language(I am international student), will come to my country (and meet me) before 4.15. Only prob is that our interests are only partially overlapped. Univ B: Also very kind. Very smart and not pushy, very considerate. Young prof and I am sure he wont leave this univ in at least 5yrs. Very productive, and his work is great! interest not 100% match, but I've read his research grant and found lots of very exciting things in it. Social life: Univ A: One of my old friend is there; one of my good friend is going there... Wonderful place to dance. Convient for life. Safe. Univ B: City not safe, but around campus is OK. Don't know anyone there. Wonderful place to enjoy concerts and musics, performance. dont know if is convient for life, guess would be ok... Any advises? thanks!
  2. I think you can check the application status on the website? I received an email telling me about that on Feb 26, well, for doctoral program... but don't know master program....
  3. thank you dramanda and dirkduck! The harvard name just shocked me, but their funding, and that "EdD" pulled me back to earth... Thanks for advice! and for dirkduck, for UM, I received a phone interview with the potential advisor in Jan, and he kept me posted after the interview. Seems they already have the recruits to visit the campus, but I didnt come b/c I'm international student... I think u can check the status through their webpage? here's the link http://wolverineaccess.umich.edu/
  4. well, admitted into EdD program at HGSE and combined program in psych and edu at Michigan...but difficult to choose offers... 1. financial: UM gives 5 years of full funding; H gives very minimal money..definitely need to re-apply for money every year and need to work a lot to support myself. 2. advisor: both are very kind and nice persons, they make me feel comfortable talking with them. UM one is a senior one; 3. mutual interest: both are partially related... well, my interest is kind of in the cross field of cognitive development and educational psych... any advice? Thank you so much!
  5. oh yea, I am worrying about similar things! I feel scared to say no to those profs who I have wonderful talks with, exchange ideas with, and from whom I received lots of encouragements! Some profs are very considerate on this, one of potential advisor told me" I definitely want u to come, But if u decide not to come, I won't be personally offended"
  6. it depends... the potential advisor from a third univ told me that, "if u go with prof.* (the senior one, authority in the field), being his student will make a difference in your life! but maybe he will have a lab of big size and he will be busy, so u are just receving guide from the post-doc there" so that's the trade-off.
  7. accepted by the ohio state univ and johns hopkins, rejected by harvard and washington university in st. louis ....
  8. how is Univ of Michigan on that? they have a combined program in edu and psych.... and how is harvard grad sch of edu? it has a doctoral program called human development and edu....but seems they can give EdD only
  9. oh...I met the similar situation... and the young prof happened to be the senior's student years ago!
  10. Has anyone heard from the psychological and brain sciences at JHU? received an email from POI last monday telling me they will reach a final decision at the beginning of this week...but no news after that.... should I write to ask about the result...
