I was rejected this morning. My only option is WUSTL and I cannot afford it, so I won't be going to school in the fall. Best wishes to all.

Nope. Cal was a major reach for me on all fronts and I had to try even though I knew my numbers weren't up to par.

That was me. A separate committee reviews MSW/MPH applicants, so it's not really a good clue for MSW applicants. Sometimes dual degree applicants are referred to the MSW pool because the committee meets later.

@RCtheSS Awww you're sweet! I applied a LONG time ago now, so I don't know what the hold up could be.
@Msw_22: I have the same concern. Did you apply in December? I did. I knew I was rejected from UMich when everyone that applied at the same time or after me had been admitted and I hadn't heard anything. Maybe UCLA does it differently. I'll keep thinking that! Maybe ours is coming later today....

@RCtheSS Right?! Considering how poorly my application season has gone, I am expecting a rejection. I have a low GPA and no volunteering. I am completely leaning on my career and life experience, and it's already been very poorly received.

@avchildre I too looked around for salary/employment stats for WUSTL grads and didn't find anything. I ended up using LinkedIn to see what jobs WUSTL grads had, so that would be my suggestion. I've been getting a "sales" vibe from admissions that I don't like at all. Furthermore, I emailed them to find out if the Statistics class I was going to enroll in would count for their requirement. No one ever responded to me and I think that speaks volumes.

@Lorie Congratulations!!!! I just checked mine again (appstatus.grad.ucla.edu) and it's still giving me the "no decision has been made" message.

That makes sense. I will be pleasantly surprised if we hear something this week, but based on past years, next week looks a bit more likely. They have to notify us eventually! :-)

Nope. I thought when you called last week they told you a new batch of acceptances would be sent out in two weeks?
I looked at the results for prior years and a lot of decisions went out during the second week of March, lots of March 10, 11, and 12 dates.

I was just rejected from Berkeley's MSW/MPH dual degree program, so UCLA is my last chance this application season. I'm hoping for good news.

@umichMSW It just means I belong somewhere else! I have a lot of academic baggage, if you will, so it's not surprising. UMich has interviewed some applicants, so you may still get a chance to show how qualified you are through that avenue too. I was admitted to WUSTL for the MSW/MPH program but I cannot afford it. They awarded me a small scholarship for the MSW but it's just not enough since it is a three year program and with living expenses, would still put me in debt around $120K, which given my age, I would literally spend the rest of my life paying off. I want to go but I cannot justify that for these degrees. I really believe the cost of a graduate degree should be tied to the average starting salary of a person with that degree. The cost of an MSW at many universities is out of control. Anyway, I'm keeping the faith for you!

@umichMSW That is disappointing. I'm sorry. I am pulling for you (and will continue to do so!).
If they were going to reject you, they would have done it. Believe me. They couldn't get me out of their applicant pool fast enough. I don't have concrete information about this, but they have a lot of acceptances floating around out there and are likely waiting to get declines before admitting anyone else. It sounds like you are on hold rather than being on the waitlist, which might be better because it means they have not come to a decision either way. You are still in the running.

Well, my fellow future social workers, I'm just waiting on UCLA and Berkeley now. I have been rejected from SDSU, which means my hope for those last two is quite dim. I'm not giving up but I am prepared for the worst.

@wanderlustinginstead I'm so happy for you!!! Congrats!!! I usually check my mail everyday, however, I don't think I checked it last night when I came home. I was juggling many bags. I'll see what's there when I get home tonight.

I'm also still waiting. I applied on 12/13 and had to file a petition for reinstatement (long story behind that one) which might have delayed my application a bit.
GPA in last two years of undergrad: 3.06
GRE: 3.5 (also have on record with SDSU my old scores of 4.5 and 5.0)
Hours: 20,000+
I too am worried. I will be attending if I am admitted.

I'm leaning heavily towards not going to WUSTL. I cannot justify the cost. It's like PhD admissions for me at this point: if a school doesn't think I am worth enough to significantly reduce my cost through scholarships or grants, I should not be considering it.

My decision desk was updated on January 26th and I have not heard anything yet. I applied for the 2 year Clinical program.

I too want to be a clinician, but I also want the public health perspective to inform my work as a clinician. However, the issues I am interested in aren't very high profile yet and I may want to do a doctorate in public health and really dig into research in those issues. That's what I like about WUSTL's program, the MPH in particular, is that it is very open ended, and I like that it has such close ties to social work because the issues that I am interested in also need the perspective that comes with an MSW! I started thinking maybe I will just choose one and save myself a year but they are so linked in my head now that I don't think I can.
It sounds like WUSTL is a good fit for you; that potential drive sounds terrible! When I was looking at Ann Arbor, I was pretty shocked at the rent. I thought it would be a lot cheaper than where I am now (SoCal) and while it was more affordable, it seemed like a lot.

@RCtheSS: They offered a $10,000 scholarship pro-rated over two years for the MSW and no funding at all for the MPH, so my cash price would be $99K tuition before living expenses. I have not attempted to negotiate for more because I do not have excellent numbers or research to cite. They would have to give me at least $30K more in order for me to feel comfortable with the cost and that's extremely unlikely.
