are you for sure that Penn had 600 application? This is like the lottery now. Not even the most well-intentioned adcom can properly review 600 applications of this kind.

daayyyumm just noticed you're in at northwestern, chicago and ucla. what's on your resume/app that's been so desirable?

yeah it's so competitive. looks amazing though. probably where I'd be happiest. but my recommenders had no connections there and the one faculty member I could work with and mentioned in my PS is probably already really, really popular and not on the look out for incoming grad students.

You guys and your POIs. It just felt too crass to me to be emailing professors. Maybe I should have. Oh well. And jeez...600 apps. So appx 1% of applicants will be accepted...that's absurd. We have better chances doing a lot of things that seem difficult to us right now than being 6 out of a 600 pool for an ivy league school.
