I'm hoping it is because the old-guard of the department is protesting letting such a terrible applicant like myself in and the up and coming young guns are considering leaving the department unless they offer me a fully-funded package. Sorry. even writing that felt good.

@cautiously_optimistic - will you marry me?
-
I learned to surf when I moved to SD. Changed my life forever.
-
I hadn't heard from UCSD, drop them an e-mail, got the rejection the next day. I think if most the notices had gone out, it is fine to e-mail if you haven't heard.

Official rejection notifications are up on UCSD's system. I did my masters there and had several recs from profs in the department. Sad day.
-
Are there any other post-IR/PS students that have not heard back from UCSD? I'm assuming I didn't get good news for a reason (other former IR/PSers did, I think), but I also haven't gotten my rejection yet! I know our apps are handled slightly different...
-
definitely thought you were going a different direction with this comment at first. I called up an ex that went to berkeley after getting rejected from there. I'll admit, it made me feel better.
-
That's boss. U of M is awesome. Good work!
-
A very authoritative voice told this forum a while ago there wasn't a chance on stanford til after the 13th. pretty sure we were all too scared to question it.
-
bummer. out at berkeley. I guess it is kinda nice to finally know.
-
I recently switched to this thinking. I mean, UCSD has starting sending out rejections. I haven't gotten one of those (yet, knock on wood) and I'm certainly not assuming that means I'm in. So, if you haven't heard back, it means exactly that, you have no idea. Just because you were not part of the first blast does not change anything! On a semi-related note, I also convinced myself I'm most qualified candidate in the history of the world (despite a few 'traditional' flaws like a terrible GPA and GRE scores...psh) so it would be totally their loss regardless. Good luck fellow holdouts.

I haven't gone back to find the original quote. I could, I guess. He/she didn't criticize american foreign policy though. He/she said something along the lines of Americans don't understand foreign policy or something similar. I agree that my generalization of their comment pushed the conversation into a different direction that is more complicated. That book looks fine. Doesn't seem super worth reading to me because it is so obvious to me that US foreign policy is not about helping people, not even americans, just a few very powerful people. The war on terror has been an incredibly successful in helping american firms continue to develop technology that will help sustain the US's long-term geo-political position. Obviously, that isn't to say I support it. I thought we were gonna drop it. This is as much as a "not a prick" tone as I can strike.

Congrats. Iowa is cool.

That was 12 years ago. And obviously someone working on middle east comp issues will have lots to say. I would say that most pol sci folks understand that most foreign military operations are typically focused on commercial interests and that given the US's economic size and power it is to be expected that they destroy much of the world on a regular bases (and granted, that is terrible). But that isn't specific to the US, so yea, on a forum dedicated to a bunch of people that want to study this, I was hoping for a little more depth...
-
I think it means, no, not all have been sent out.
-
Which ones? Certainly the biggest critics of US foreign policy are not pol sci profs. Chomsky, Scahill, Greenwall... Oh and I am totally both those things.
-
Coolio. I'll bow out, but sorry, this is the US and I do have pride. If were applying to a school in another country I would not say negative things on a forum based in the country.
-
oh snap! UCSD is doing the rejection thing first again!!!! AAAAHHHH. Now I don't want to see an e-mail! Oh and sorry tinkerbell. I still believe in you. hang in there.
-
Oh and I've been traveling work for so away from this forum...just now getting caught up. I got say, it always cracks me up to here foreigners that are applying to live in the US speaking trash about it. Don't get me wrong, I hate a lot of things about this country, but YOU clearly like our university system (and implicitly a lot of other things). I can criticize it better than most foreigners, I'm sure. But come on, you are applied to live here. Hope you all don't believe in karma. And don't say things like "american foreign policy is terrible" or whatever around a bunch of Americans that are studying to be political scientist. You are really asking for it. what is terrible? compared to what? during what time period? aren' there many that are worse? who is better? and so on and so on and so on. It is also important to note that immigration is the last pillar of globalization. financial flows and products pretty much flow freely, but people do not....yet. I imagine over the course of our careers it is an issue we will research at length (for IR peeps like me).
-
I hope not. I applied to two of those. I've already had enough emotion for one week...
-
since i'm in the boat of having applied and not heard anything yet, i'll go ahead and say it. when acceptance get posted on this website is not a reflection of when they were sent out. it seems pretty clear to me that both UCLA and Berkeley did big blasts that probably covered all the admits. Balls...
-
yup. two of my schools went out today and no news California dreamin over here...
-
congrats. what a cool place. i'm telling myself this one is fit related
