  1. Hope you are correct! I'll let you know in a few weeks what I think!!! I would be curious to hear more about what is "fit." Typical I think people are referring to research interests. I wonder, however, how much things like "I love STATA" at a program which mostly uses SAS matters....
  2. Nevermind. A Wisconsin rejection with killer GREs just popped up. Darn.
  3. Truth. When we got accepted to where will only matter for the next month, after that, none of this speculation matters.
  4. I did well in the grad courses I cared about, but didn't "crush" it, though I did graduate with honors. I'm just below the 3.5 cut off I think many top schools use (for grad GPA!).
  5. Maybe I'm looking into this too much and hoping it is the case due to my personal weakness....but...I like that I'm seeing low GPAs getting admissions! KNOCK on WOOD!!!
  6. It only takes one!!! Hang in there!
  7. Doubt it. I'm hoping for UCSD this week...not any others.
  8. I really wouldn't do that. I was accepted. I'm super excited to check it out. If I had to bet, I'm very confident I'll go there, but funding decisions (which will obviously impact my decision) will not be available (for most schools, I take it) until March. So, come March, they might offer me 0 dollars, to which I would probably pass on, and you get the next offer! Easier to say when you aren't in the position, but don't consider yourself out of the running until you actually are!
  9. Hmm...I'm seeing a lot of "emailed to check website" admissions. Those are terrifying. I get my e-mail to my phone, but all my admissions websites are saved on my web browser. There is a possibility that I'll get an e-mail to check, but be 1 to 2 hours away from being able to check during which I'll probably go insane and start yelling incoherent things on the DC metro.... I guess I could try to learn to log-in on my phone...but them seems like too many emotions for a touch screen...
  10. Truth. Looks like the first two weeks of Feb will be awesome if you get in, and the last two weeks rough if you don't! I have a theory that the MIT ad com is meeting due to slight changes to their online system...
  11. So, as it turns out, this forum is more addicting than originally thought. I still check it is frequently as before, just with a different set of emotions and less heaviness to each click. Honestly, it is probably more a function of being force sit in an office 40 hours a week. I can't wait to share quitting job stories in a few months....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yngq9NmOnFw
  12. Email from the head of the department. Well written, but standard. It made me realize that is it pretty futile to check the online systems since those are all run my universities (my e-mail included the standard caveat that they are only making a recommendation to the university that I be admitted, so while the process is pro-form, those systems update last). My guess is that you will only get news via those 5 percent of the time. So, hopefully, I will switch to checking my e-mail and phone obsessively instead of the online ones. Or not, because Boulder is awesome and I should just live there for 5-7 years!!!!!!!!
  13. I also got into Boulder ! Sounds like they want to interview people for TA spots during their visitation weekend. Can't wait to check it out! I'll wait to post full stats til I hear from all schools. BUT, I will say that I have a very, very low UGPA. I guess work and research experience really can offset other factors!
  14. I have officially memorized 6 different computer generate usernames and a series of sL1ghtly diFFer3nt passwords.
  15. At this point, I'm even checking this forum so frequently that there are no updates...I'm just enjoying cluttering up the board so that future applicants have to shift through more posts to find the good stuff! Pro-tip: If you change the last digit to 99 on the URL for this forum, your favorites will take you straight to the most recent post. Depressing, huh?
  16. Three publications? Geez...I thought my non-peer reviewed publications were more rare, even if not that helpful. Congrats!!!!
  17. Sorry, I use sarcasm as a coping mechanism. I'm still with you that it is pretty lame if you do not get in...
  18. Maybe try using a folder...
  19. I've never been a fan of the term troll. It is a pejorative. I think we should shot for political correctness, and since you are interested in PhDs, I say we refer to them as Player-haters Holy goodness, I am BORED!
  20. I have zero intention of taking on more debt. Maybe if I get into my top choice, otherwise, no dice for me!
  21. I respect anyone's right to withhold information. I'm big on privacy (e.g. I'm not on facebook or other social medias). I seriously doubt you could do/post anything on here that would impact admissions. At least I hope so!
  22. One of my rec letter writers is from Duke. For those that might go there, Malesky is DA BOMB. Brilliant academic and great person.
  23. From them: " When your file is complete, it will be forwarded to our department for an admission decision. The decision will be communicated to you by the end of January 2014."
  24. Colorado, to which I applied, is suppose to announce in January! So glad I'll hear from one school this month!!!
  25. I doubt admission committees look at linkedin profiles. What can you gleam off that that candidates didn't cram into their applications otherwise. My linkedin is just my digital CV. I hope they do though. My biggest mistake was, on several applications, I missed the sections for "awards" and "publications," of which I have several. Now I'm worried they will not even see those (which are listed on my CV) because i'm likely in the first screening of top schools due to a low undergrad GPA. Oh well. Anywho, congrats @jeudepaume. Obviously, don't count your chickens before your eggs hatch, but it would SUPER lame to get that call only to later find out you didn't get in. At this point in the game, I'd say you are in pretty good shape...jealous!
