  1. I don't know anything about UCSD in particular, but in general the portfolio is by far the most important aspect of your application. Most schools will look only at the portfolios in the first round of review, and eliminate a whole bunch of people based on portfolio alone. Then they might look at the written statements, and eliminate another batch. Once they've narrowed the pool down to a group with strong portfolios and strong statements, they'll start looking at references and maybe transcripts. Basically, I wouldn't worry at all about a 3.0 gpa, since the transcript is at the bottom of the priority list and 3.0 isn't notably bad. Focus on your portfolio and your statement. And then again on your portfolio.
  2. Yea, if you don't accept the school's offer and the award, then it's not yours to brag about.
  3. @OutWest - great list! I'm sure future applicants will find that very helpful. Just a minor edit - in the East section you mention "SFMA", but I think you probably meant "SMFA" - School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Also, I get the impression that they give out just under 1/3 funding to a lot of people, probably some get more than that, and two people are chosen to receive full tuition.

    WAITLISTED?!

What made you decide to turn down Cranbrook last year and reapply this year?

    MFA 2012 Decisions!!

Yay!! I just got word that RISD received my deposit, so it's all a done deal now. It's a good feeling. I look forward to meeting you in September!
  6. Congratulations!!!! That's great! I know I've already said this to others, but Tyler's my undergrad and I absolutely loved it. Susan Moore is the best.

    MFA 2012 Decisions!!

Thanks! I'm really excited. Congrats to you too! It looks you have some amazing options yourself - have you narrowed it down?
  8. Hi all! Just thought I'd start a new thread for those who have made their final decisions, if anyone would like to share. Or, if you'd like advice or support while making your decision, ask away! I just sent in my deposit to RISD, so am happy to say I'll be attending there this fall. Anyone else out there RISD-bound?
  9. hah! nice. actually though, it's only $300. by enrollment fee you mean the matriculation fee, right?
  10. hey kylebta! congratulations! I see that you're painting as well, so I guess we'll be getting to know each other over the next two years. look forward to meeting you!
  11. Congratulations noahfur!! That's very exciting. Tyler was my undergrad, and I have only positive things to say about it. Which department?
  12. Alright, officially turned down BU! For some reason I half thought they would yell at me, like I'd cheated on them by applying to other schools. They didn't, though.
  13. I don't see any reason why you would be hindering opportunities by pursuing both painting and glass. If you're interested and passionate, then go for it! The only thing that will make you more competitive is the strength of your portfolio - not the number of disciplines, but the quality of work you produce.
  14. For which program? If you look at my signature I list the dates I received notification from each program. RISD made phone calls for acceptances to the painting department last week.
  15. Unfortunately this is a very small business (I was one of 3 employees) so there is no HR department. It is ridiculous. But yes, on the day that I have my first solo show at the MOMA, I'll send a show card their way. Yes, it is completely possible to be fired on the spot. I gave 6 months' notice of the *possibility* of leaving, and he fired me on the spot.
  16. yay! a connection! I was indeed in group B. Do you think you'll be attending? The application says 'decision ready'. good luck!
  17. I got a call around 4pm today, accepted.
  18. Well, I essentially just got fired. So, there's that! No job, and lots of loans in my future. (Fired because I had applied to grad school. Note that it's not because I was accepted, but simply because I had applied. He made that very clear.)
  19. Thanks! And also...phone call from SMFA, accepted.
  20. thanks! I actually had a skype interview last week, but then went there on Tuesday's interview day to show work in person. Were you there?
  21. Just got a phone call from RISD - accepted!!!
