I think the only one revealing unattractive character traits on this forum is you, judging by both this thread and the previous ones you posted.

ktel, I think you've dug yourself into a hole here. In your first response, you tried to redefine the issue so that you could congratulate yourself for your past actions, but you inadvertently revealed your unattractive ethical flexibility.

I think it's fair to assume that since you advocate lying to professors, and lying about your classmates, you are also OK with lying to your classmates (and, no doubt, lying on internet forums, which calls into question everything you've posted here). I'll bet you don't like it when it happens to you though.

And I doubt you would want your current classmates knowing about what you've posted here. That would put an end to your relying on them right quick.

I doubt the coordinator is authorized to inform you of the decision either way. That, plus the office is probably busy right now, and students/applicants are often not the top priority of admin staff.

I actually find it strange that so much of this forum is dedicated to the application and decision-making process. But maybe I'm missing the point.

Sometimes it's nice to have interactions with grad students that don't impact internal departmental rankings. (Nobody told me about this system until the END of my MA, and I'm sort of glad they didn't. I wish I could remain equally ignorant for the PhD.) Relative anonymity can be a good thing.

I finished the rest of the internet early. Also, I find it flattering that I have made such an impression on you.

This is the worst possible place to try and look for support or community. The 'advice' floating around on here is usually absolutely horrific. Really, I question the intelligence of those that stick around and pity the people coming here with nowhere else to turn for answers to their questions. 99% of what is posted on here are unresearched opinions, conjecture and speculation. Bad.




That's funny, because I'm pretty sure I was only substantially (if you could even call it that) involved in one thread, which was dramatic and pathetic from the start, so, not only is your sample size woefully small, your hypothesis and conclusions are both totally crap too.

For support and a sense of community. Why do some posts smack of judgment and condescension?

Why do some people continue to post on this forum, for what in some cases seems to be years, after the grad admission process? Do they not access to other graduate students / advisors to talk to in real life about their graduate school issues? It just seems a bit pathetic to me.

This is an unfortunate opinion that keeps so many people from seeking help. Mental health counseling or "therapy" can be just as important to maintaining wellness as it is to fixing problems that already exist. It is enormously helpful to be able to talk and bounce ideas off a neutral person who can really put things into perspective for you. You can seek out therapy without being pathologized or diagnosed with something or prescribed drugs.

I will refrain from pointing out the hilarity of calling a community of graduate and post-graduate students in every field imaginable "pseudo-intellectuals". I will also refrain from pointing out the fact that while attempting to demean the intellect of these students, you managed to misspell "pseudo". I will refrain. I will!

Thank you for clarifying semantics. I now see the err of my ways. Your ability to focus on the big picture of a topic and not miss the point is unrivaled. You have definitely contributed to this conversation. Unfortunately, I fear that your vast intellect is intimidating other posters, deterring them from contributing as well. Therefore, I kindly request that you refrain from further posting in this thread. It is important that others feel encouraged to participate, even those without your superior abilities.

I will be attending Smith. It isn't much of a decision for me, because it was the only program that I applied to. I have been completely in love with their program for the past 3 years and I am completely over the moon excited to be attending.
