As much as I hate being rejected from four programs in the last 24 hours, I am at least grateful they are finally sending these rejections so I can focus on my acceptance!

Rejected from UMass Amherst.

So when do you actually relocate to start your program?

Maybe I'm one of the only ones moving West to East. I plan on staying most of the way through the summer and working, but then doing a big road trip on my way to my program. I do need to figure out when I need to find my apartment by, that seems like a big consideration. -
Rejected from UCLA

This won't make you any money, but if you are moving to Eugene, I suggest you come out and sublet a place in Portland for a few months first. Come here, live the good life, and then move down to Eugene. Given, it's near impossible to find a job here, especially on a temporary basis. -
Thanks for the info. Bummer.

I applied only based on fit with someone or the overall program. So far, I've only gotten into UConn and Louisville. Rejected from UCSB and Indiana. Still have a few to hear from, and certainly rejected from a whole bunch. My topic is really specific, so even if a program had had previous students do similar research or someone who does related things, I can see that I might not be the best candidate for most of the programs.

Yes, I applied, but haven't heard. A little odd considering they sent some rejections out already. I'm assuming rejection from them, which is a bummer, it's a great program! Do you have any other offers or schools your are waiting on?
-
@avee, have you heard anything from Brandeis regarding your waitlist?
-
Hi everyone. I've been accepted to UConn, and it sounds great- it has great funding and faculty I really want to work with. I was wondering what people have heard about the department as I've noticed there isn't much buzz here about it but similarly ranked programs seem to have more appliciants/threads. I'd love to know what you've heard. Thank you!

Thanks auralee for the information and congrats! My status still says applied, boo, but maybe it will change soon. UCSC would be so awesome.
-
Dear UCSC, please be emailing more out over the weekend because I don't think I can make it until monday.
-
Seconded! Come on UCSC, email me some good news to start my weekend off right.
-
Any details on the UCSC acceptance would be greatly appreciated

Congrat you all! Oregon, and Eugene, is a wonderful place to be. I'll be super sad to leave this state (and our excellent beers).
-
Yep, I got into UConn. And just as I was resigning myself to another masters program to make myself more competitive. I have an extremely limited sociology background (cross-listed courses and publications only), so there is still hope for you for sure!

Me too!

wmnshlth- I'm sorry that you found out about a rejection from your first choice! That is not a good way to spend your Saturday night at all.
-
Yes, agreed! I applied to 13 schools (1 M.A.) and even thought I went into it extremely realistically- thinking I might not get in anywhere- I still feel really embarrassed to have been rejected/assumed rejected from almost all of my doctorate choices and only have gotten into to a M.A., especially because I already have a M.S. in a related field. I'm trying to have an okay attitude about it and focus on the one acceptance I have, but I do feel the same lack of luster for life you mention. Rejection is really hard, even when you go in understanding the realities of this whole system.
-
Congrats! Sad way to start the weekend for me....
-
Maybe tomorrow? I also applied to UMass Amherst and it looks like that could be next week judging from past years, so maybe next week is the big week for us, sleepycat
-
I was really hoping to hear from UCSC this week based on past years.
-
Sorry avee, I hope you get off the waitlist. I'm guessing a rejection for me, which is okay. Saw it coming after that phoned acceptance the other day.
-
@avee, didn't CUNY send out it's rejections already? I didn't apply there but I got the impression that if you haven't heard anything from them, it's a good sign. I'm also waiting on Brandeis.
