Is anyone else antsy waiting for rejections? When I open my email in the morning, I'm almost hoping to find a rejection from schools like Chicago, Michigan and Rutgers, since I know I'm not accepted and I just want to move on already.
-
I applied to UCSC too, Sleepycat, But this season has been rough, so who knows!
-
Being rejected from UCSB and Indiana wasn't that bad because I wouldn't really love to live in either of those places. But seeing acceptances for Chicago made this week a pretty bad week. I'm trying to keep my expectations low and realistic and remember that I have another path to get me to a Ph.D. if I don't get in this year but it is hard. The worst is having everyone ask you if you've heard from anywhere and having to fess up "well, yes, but nothing good so far."
-
Will we hear from anyone else this week or do we have to wait until next week? Any guesses?

What's your plan until grad school?

I'm working as a nanny right now as I finish up my thesis for my M.S. I just got the job and it pays super well and it's very low-key. Highly recommend as an in-between gig if you have childcare/education experience. If I get into a doctoral program, as opposed to my only offer right now- funded M.A.- I will probably throw in a vacation too. -
Also, that's later than last year, right?
-
I applied to UCLA. I don't think I will get in, so it felt more like a donation than an application fee, ha.

Rejected from UCSB. Not too upset, but I really wish I had another offer to comfort me right about now...

Congrats. Ugh this is turning out to be some week for me

Lesbian life in various places (recommendations? warnings?)

Anyone know anything about Louisville? I hear it's LGBTQ friendly, but I come from Portland, OR, so I'm still expecting some culture shock when it comes to outness of LGBTQ people- is this correct to assume? -
Starting to accept the inevitable

I totally related to this- it is really hard not to get discouraged when you see schools you applied to showing up on the results survey and you've heard nothing. I agree with ThisSlumgullionIsSoVapid though. You have some chances for admission left, and you also have some options for strengthening your application. Take a break from this forum (easier said than done) and spend time with your girlfriend thinking about how great Austin is going to be. -
I didn't apply there, but I live in Portland, and grew up closeish to Eugene, so if you have any questions about the state, feel free to ask.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted today!

I'm not sure what your interests are- but a lot of direct service jobs result in education- educational presentations to varying audiences, for example. Non-profit orgs in an area of interest to you (violence against women, LGBTQ competency, sex education, immigration rights, anti-racism action, etc.) might be a good place to volunteer/land a job. A lot of my friends have jobs where they go to schools, conferences, and companies doing presentations on a topic they are super passionate about and I'm think they are pretty lucky!

Hey folks that got a rejection letter from IU, I'm sorry- I'm sure mine is on it's way. Did your status change on the application status page? Mine just says "Submitted" now. It's driving me crazy!!!!

Funded M.A. I applied to one as a "back up" during the application process and with more and more people getting interview invites and acceptances to my other options, I'm thinking a(nother) M.A. is looking almost like Plan A at this point.
-
With all of these Indiana- and now a Rutgers- requests for interviews, I can't help thinking I'm always the bridesmaid and never the bride in this whole process!

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school

I hate the "You'll get in somewhere" thing! My partner's parents and I had an awkward conversation which consisted of "Well, what would a sociology professor teach?" "Um, sociology?" "And what is that, exactly?" -
I hate when you know you are rejected, but you haven't received the official notice yet. Oh well. The midwest is not for me, I guess!

I've received a funded offer at University of Louisville. I know that their funding deadline has passed as well. Maybe you can email places and inquire about the likelihood you'd get funded the next year? That way, only half of your masters would be unfunded.
-
I know what you mean about freaking about about not get accepted- I applied for a funded M.A. as a back-up, and found out I was accepted and fully funded, so that has given me some piece of mind. I think that it's important to remember that one rejection does not mean you won't get in anywhere! You only need one yes! UNC Charlotte, I think, is still accepting for M.As, also Louisville is still accepting for a bit, too, if you are still looking for back up options.
