    CCA or SFAI?

I actually was wondering the same thing, but for undergrad programs in photography. Does anyone have experience or information about which school has a better undergrad photography program? I'm actually waiting for news about my visual studies/art history grad apps, but my partner just got into both schools, SFAI and CCA, as a photography major, and she's stuck...not sure which she likes better/or which is better. Any input would be great guys, thanks!
  2. If you look at the top of the webpage, you'll see results survey. We're able to see people that have posted their accepted/rejected status from schools there. Most of us are OCD about that and our emails. Good luck to you---I think its killing all of us! :-)
  3. Congrats to the Berkeley acceptance! And so it begins... the rest should be coming soon...I hope.
  4. I'm a straight to PhD candidate as well. May I ask what other schools you've applied to? That's great mich123: Where are you finishing up your MA at, if you don't mind my asking?
  5. I just got my rejection email from Santa Cruz too...I'm bummed. Smooth va and mich123: Do you already have your MA or are you straight to PhD applicants?
  6. Yup, that's what I was going to say... that said... any ideas? I'm considering it because they have a Queer Art History area of concentration. I might call and ask for more info because I also do want it to be too limited seeing as how QAH is a separate area of concentration from Modern and Contemporary on their site.
  7. Hey Everyone! I was just wondering if anyone had any information on which of the two Terminal MA programs is better. I was initially going for SFAI, but SFSU is also tugging at me. I'm looking to focus on Gender and Sexuality (Queer Theory) in Contemporary Art. Ranking, personal experience, what you've heard through the grapevine...anything helps you guys! Thanks Erica
  8. Hi Alyss, I'm currently working on apps for Fall 2012 admissions, and I still have not decided if I was going to bump SFAI for SFSU MA in Art History. Is the Museum Studies and Art History program connected in any way? I was hoping you might be able to some insider input on the matter. Also, I noticed that the GRE scores are listed for the Museum studies program, but not the AH one, I wonder why that is? I dont expect you to answer that one...just throwin it out there! Congrats BTW, is it everything you dreamed of?!

LLajax I know exactly how you feel. Everything started to hit me once I realized how many people were on their second and third round of applications. I did get a response back from the POI at Berkeley just now. Good news is that the POI responded and agrees that I would be a good fit for the program and that they are taking on students next year. Well, where do I go from here? What I'd really like is for this person to size me up and tell me if I've got a shot, but so does every one is right?

Wow, 9 programs! Here I was thinking 5 programs was crazy! Have you taken the GRE yet? I know, I can't stop thinking about the fact that Spring may be a very sad time next year....
  11. I was thinking the same thing. Actually SFSU does have a terminal MA that I was looking at. It looks like I'll be going to that route...BTW, sorry for the late reply, my notifications were off. Thanks for the feedback!

I really havent done a lot of research on schools on the East Coast, but briefly looking at U of R's program it looks great. This may be a little more biased because I saw Douglas Crimp is there and he would be a potential fit for me! Actually, as a whole it looks like they have a great group of faculty there, and the program sounds great. What are some of the other schools you're looking to apply to?

Hello! I'm applying to five graduate programs, two of which are MAs and three are straight to PhDs. I'm applying to SFAI, CCA, Berkeley, Santa Cruz and USC. However, I find that I am really only excited about the Berkeley and CCA programs. I would be more excited about USC because of Richard Meyer, but I really would love to stay in the Bay area. My focus is gender and sexuality studies in contemporary art. I sent out emails to my POIs at Berkeley and CCA yesterday so now I'll play the waiting game. I take the GRE next week, and as time progresses, I can feel Berkeley getting further and further out of reach. I know my scores arent going to be stellar, and I'm afraid this is going to play a big role with the Berkeley AdCom. This coupled with the fact that I'm coming from a smaller less well known school outside of California and the fact that I have no internship or work experience in the field. Really, all I have going for me are my letters of Rec and my senior thesis. I was thinking about applying to Stanford to work with Jean Ma, but I feel like this would be another Berkeley. Do any of you guys know if I'll have a better shot of getting in to USC over Berkeley? Should I just suck it up, apply and be open to the move? I've also recently applied to an internship at SFMOMA, but from what I hear those are quite competitive too... I'm feeling pretty bummed to say the least...
  14. Hello Everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic at the moment, looking for some advice. I'm scheduled to take the GRE in 3 weeks (get the scores Dec 1st, day of a few program deadlines so its going to be a tight squeeze) and on all of my practice tests, my Verbal is mediocre 620 and my quant is embarassingly low, not even 500. I'm a horrible standardized test taker, so things arent looking so great for me. My undergrad GPA was good 3.78 and I have strong letters of rec but no internships or relevant work exp. My top schools are PhD programs, Berkeley and USC (restricted to CA), but I'm also including Santa Cruz because its within my location and two MA programs, CCA and SFAI. Here are my questions, with such horrible scores on the GRE that I have yet to take, what do you think my chances of getting into Berkeley or USC are? (I'm thinking slim to none, especially coming from a small state college in Denver). Secondly, does anyone know about the Visual Studies/Art History programs at CCA or SFAI? In otherwords, if I have to get a MA prior to moving on to a PhD program, will these schools be of any help to me? Just an FYI, my area is Contemporary Art with a focus on gender and sexuality. Overall goal, really interested in research and curatorial work. Thanks for the help everyone!
