  1. I applied for Victorian/19th century literature. Clearly, POIs are calling candidates piecemeal, so who knows how long this could go on for. Don't give up yet!
  2. Just got a call from a POI at Rutgers....Good luck to everyone else!
  3. Both Rutgers and Harvard were spaced out over a few days last year.....Or at least that's what I am telling myself for now.
  4. I feel crazy....but I am totally dying to hear something from SOMEWHERE before this long weekend. It's particularly agonizing because Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Brown all typically notify around this time.
  5. Thanks, TripWillis! I see you've gotten into quite a few good programs yourself. In terms of UCLA, I feel like all of these programs are equally competitive, so it's hard to judge where you'll get in based on relative prestige. Like everyone else says, I guess it's all about fit. I had trouble writing a convincing UCLA fit paragraph, and it was also the first one I submitted, so I didn't really have my shit together yet. At this point, I just want this process to be over! i was so worried about not getting in anywhere that I applied to 14 schools, but now I wish I'd been a little more conservative, as it's going to take forever to hear from all of them.
  6. I hear you both about Harvard and Yale. I also applied to Princeton, and they are supposed to notify soon. None of these are programs that I am dying to attend (Yale and Princeton were totally "why not?" applications), but now that I am this far down the grad-school rabbit hole, every potential notification makes me nervous.
  7. In my SOP to Indiana University, I called it "the University of Indiana." Tried to tell myself that they get it all the time...
  8. Seriously crazy...I just got my acceptance email about half an hour after starting this thread. Ahh! My funding package is not nearly as generous as the other poster--$18,000 for the first year. Good luck to everyone else!! It seems like they are sending (at least some) acceptances out this afternoon.
  9. An acceptance just went up on the board. There goes the rest of my afternoon. I wonder how many times I can hit "refresh" in four hours.
  10. @wassermelone and @joega1111, the funding stuff is a total mystery. They offered me a two-year fellowship with a $23,000 stipend, and then for the next two years teaching duties with a stipend of $17,000 and then a dissertation-writing fellowship. I don't really understand it, nor am I completely sure of what a "good" offer is. @joega1111, I technically applied for Victorian literature and my work thus far has been on Henry James, but I think I will probably edge up to fin-de-siecle or early modernist literature eventually. What about you? Berkeley was one of my top-choices fit-wise, but I am from the East Coast/NYC, so I am not so enthusiastic about moving all the way across the country. I still have the rest of my schools to hear back from (although I've assumed implicit rejection from NYU, UChicago and UCLA) and so we'll see what happens, but I am definitely taking Berkeley seriously. I believe I am also visiting in March, so I guess I'll see you there!
  11. I agree with @joega1111, I don't think they are done notifying--but it's just conjecture. @wassermelone, yes, they offered me $23,000/year stipend, tuition, health insurance, etc., I think it's their standard package. also, @joega1111, we applied to a lot of the same schools! what are you thinking about UC-Berkeley?
  12. Thanks everyone! I just saw on the results board that someone was accepted yesterday over the phone. This process is such a mystery....
  13. I think you're right, Aztecson23. It seems that's why they wait so long to send out rejections, and why over the results board you can see acceptances spread out over a few months for many schools.
  14. it's not fake! it's mine. I received an email that said "decision notification from UC-Berkeley" and it took me to the application website where it said I was admitted w/ a letter from the graduate division. I am obviously quite happy--but also weirded out that no one has heard yet, and I've heard nothing from the department. good luck to everyone else!
