  1. Along with Pericles and s0classic, I am waiting for a bunch of replies, most of which are most likely rejections. Has anyone received any acceptances or rejections via snail mail? I am constantly checking my Gmail, and I am hoping that programs don't mail their replies, which would take forever to receive. Also, what about Yale (Amer. Civ.), Brown (Amer. Studies), and U.S.C. (Amer. Studies and Ethnicity), all of which have posted replies on the results page? Any news from these programs?
  2. I, too, checked mine, and I can't even seem to find where my application status would be. I haven't heard anything, though, via e-mail or otherwise...
  3. Has anyone heard anything from University of Southern California's American Studies and Ethnicity Department? In the past few years, they have notified individuals extremely early--late January and early February. In addition, they break down their application process into two categories: early applications with preferential consideration and regular applications. Have they notified individuals from either of these groups? It's been awfully quiet...
  4. I got the same *ish again from Michigan. And so it goes... I wonder whether or not schools have a tendency to send out acceptances on Valentine's Day and rejections the following day--all in accordance with making people happy today on a holiday and depressed on the following day.
  5. Does anyone know what happens in these scary sounding interviews? What types of questions do people ask? What types of answers do people expect? Should I wear a clown costume for my Skype interview?
  6. Hello community. This is my first post, but I've been lurking, checking, and refreshing this forum for quite some time. I have a question about the interview process. Do most American studies programs require an interview? What is the nature of these interviews? How does one prepare for these? Thanks and good luck to all.
  7. I was in the same boat. I got a B.A. degree in English and wanted to diversify my applications. I added a few American studies programs to my applications list. I ended up getting into University of Alabama's American studies M.A. program, which is fully funded for two years. It gave me an edge on English Ph.D. applications and allowed me to escape the debt trap that makes a lot of English M.A. programs so stressful. They fully fund all of their students, and it's a great way to make yourself more competitive for Ph.D. programs, while avoiding excessive debt.
