  1. I recently tried to get that on Netflix as well - frustrating. I'm writing a paper on Western narratives in Gravity's Rainbow and that is supposed to be one of the more important neo-westerns. I'm a cinephile, too, so it's a considerable blind spot as well.
  2. I emailed about the visiting weekend, will let you know when I hear back. Curious: what's your field of interest, Podsnap? Besides 20th/21st-century literature, I'm also focused in theory and visual studies.
  3. Yikes. My mom was convinced I'd get into any program I applied to, not wanting to understand the intimidating odds and the drawbacks of my application. Which is why I tell everyone I'll be lucky to get in anywhere and expect the worst. I've heard some negative things about the Lafayette area and the inflated size of the English grad department (not sure it applied to Rhet/Comp), but that's just one opinion and I've never been there myself. They have a number of programs that align with my interests, though, and would definitely love to get in. Everything ComeBackZinc says seems to be in response to many of the drawbacks I heard, so obviously it's a matter of individual difference.
  4. Thanks! I'm big on theory and visual studies, both of which are definitely strengths. I've never been to California, but am totally meant for warmer weather. Would be tough being on other side of country as family, though. I can see we're both currently on the wait list precipice, though. Another month and a half of being on edge!
  5. Just received a "short wait list" email, a rather pleasant surprise at this point. I wants literati visiting professorz, to touch the garment of Thiong'o, etc... Anyone else hear back?
  6. New rejection posted for Masters, any other MA applicants still in review?
  7. Just got the bad news a minute ago. I hadn't taken the Literature GRE, so I'm not stunned.
  8. Note the recent entry of a wait list via postal service. And I wasn't going to check my mail today v_v.
  9. I applied to the Master's as well--status still Under Review.
  10. Still in review, but after the agony of Ohio State, I know better to consider it a significant ray of hope. Waiting for the rejection any minute now...
  11. I responded with a brief obligatory thank you and admission that it's one of my top choices.
  12. Cool, thanks for letting me know. As of now Penn State is probably higher on my list than my other wait list Maryland.
  13. Received what I think would be called a "waitlist" email today, though the word was not used--will be offered admission if/when TAship lines open up. Pleasantly surprised about this, and curious how many others on here got a similar email (the results post is not mine, so at least one other).
  14. I'm waiting on Irvine as well, and would love to get in, but it's not one of my best fits at the end of the day. Only 2 reported acceptances so far--maybe the acceptances will be drawn out over a couple days.
  15. I'm also a Western New Yorker and have the same concerns. Rochester is a great fit, especially considering their strong film department and Rochester being a film-rich city, but I've lived in Western New York my entire life and would rather be just about anywhere south of here. Anyway, thanks for checking with them.
  16. My name falls in the middle, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.
  17. Just received an official waitlist as well. Pretty big deal as I was 0 for 2 so far. Received the same email as Stately Plump for the record. I am late 20th-century focused, so would love to hear of any Accepted's with similar interests chances of going!
  18. ^Cautiously optimistic indeed...but that makes 4 of us, at least, still in limbo. Watch your backs >_>(!!!)
  19. ^Ditto. Anticipation is killing me.
  20. Mine's still "In Review," which I'll take as a glimmer of hope. I'm 0 for 2 so far and Ohio State might very well be the best fit of any school, so this will probably be indicative of my overall chances. Sorry bout the rejection user_name...I'm still waiting on Rutgers and Penn State myself (already rejected by Delaware).
  21. After rejection from Delaware (seemingly the ~3rd worst of 13 schools I applied to) and implicit rejection from Vanderbilt, I'm definitely starting to mull over gap-year options. I'm another non-English major, and I didn't take the Literature Subject Test in time, so I suppose one big thing I could do to bolster my resume and show my commitment is study for and score well on that. Otherwise, I have a good GPA and very competitive General GRE scores, so it's frustrating not knowing exactly what it is I'm lacking in. Thought my writing sample and SOP were both pretty strong, but I figure one good goal for a gap year would be to get something published. In terms of fit, at least, Delaware and Vanderbilt were not toward the top of that category, so I'm hoping that is indeed a big factor. Marlowe and TripWillis: congrats on your successes--it's important to keep some positivity in this thread that might easily spiral a self-pity party (me included, natch)!
  22. Mine's still in review, too.
  23. Rejected by Delaware, one of the 3 of 4 schools (of 13) that I felt I had the best chance of getting into. Pretty big blow to my hopes but I'm trying to stay positive with a dozen more chances. Hard to imagine getting into e.g. Rutgers or Vanderbilt with that start, though.
  24. When I logged in, it said at the bottom of the screen that the status was updated and could be received by clicking the link. If yours doesn't show up, I imagine they haven't come to a decision yet (i.e. you've at least survived the first round of rejections).
