  1. I applied to both and have heard fantastic things from people who went through the programs and/or were seriously considering them in recent years. In love with both programs. A girl can dream....
  2. NYU or Stanford, but to echo all of you, I will be thrilled to go wherever I am accepted (if I even am accepted). I applied to thirteen and I keep repeating that I will be able to emotionally/mentally handle up to twelve rejections, ha. Just need to get into one...
  3. Right before I read this post, a pigeon did its business on my head and my first reaction was, "OMG maybe this is a sign that I'll get in somewhere!" Then I proceeded to freak out and sanitize myself. Anyway, glad to know there are many of us holding onto whatever superstitious behavior/narrative we need to get through!
  4. uh oh (for myself, not you!) -- I am looking back now at the USC site and it said "Two writing samples (one if you wish to combine both) totaling no more than 20 pages" -- I read that "one if you wish to combine both" as permission to submit one 20 page document...was that totally misreading the guidelines, or am I maybe ok (but prob not)? #headdesk
  5. Yeah, it's really confusing. For what it's worth, I had ETS send GRE scores directly and I also had my transcript sent directly from my UG institution to CUNY (so neither the GRE scores nor the transcript were in the package I sent), and everything has been received (that is, they're showing as received when I log back into my application, and I got an email on Friday saying that my application was "complete for review purposes and will be reviewed by the admissions committee").
  6. There is a portion of the application that is online (can be accessed here, right side of the page: http://www.gc.cuny.edu/Prospective-Current-Students/Prospective-Students/Admission-Requirements), but they want hard copies of the SOP, Writing Sample, Resume/CV, as well as a written agreement form (which I got a copy of after I submitted my online portion). Good luck!
  7. Yep, basically, haha. I took on a lot of extra work that added up, so while I may not have had a social life this semester, I scraped by with enough to apply to grad school!
  8. Ugh, I am having this same unexpected reaction/issue...but I already applied to 13, so I feel really ridiculous even entertaining the thought of more! (Writing it out feels particularly ridiculous.) It's impossible financially as I stretched to apply to as many as I did, and I realize that any urges I'm having to apply to more are coming from a profound fear of getting 13 rejections. (I think part of me is also feeling weird about being "done" with applications, as this has been my life for the last 7ish months...my mind is like, "What, the misery of applying cannot be over!") Anyway, I commiserate.
  9. I had mine sent to Rutgers a few weeks ago (not that it's showing in my status check as having been received...) because it says on the general grad admissions site to do that, but the English Department site suggests that it's just scanned versions needed for now...I'm finding this issue with a few places I'm applying. Fun fun!
  10. I used ETS to send mine as well, and they're showing up as received. According to this http://english.rutgers.edu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=183:applications-deadlines-inquiries&catid=126&Itemid=1565 it looks like having ETS report them is the way to go (perhaps wherever you found the information about faxing is just an outdated part of the website...the joys of conflicting information!)
  11. I just submitted mine (!!), and it's around 1000 words (I had written down that it was supposed to be 1000 words, but I can't find the place on the site anymore that told me that). In any case, good luck!!!
  12. Thanks all for the replies! I might just be safe and have official transcripts sent because seeing this "incomplete" status is giving me a heart attack every time I log in. (Other heart attacks include my 3rd rec writer having yet to submit her letters for today's 12/1 deadlines...though she's on it )
  13. This might be a question to which there is an obvious answer/something I can answer myself, but just to check because, you know, maybe I can't read -- I submitted all of my apps last weekend, and I had checked earlier which ones wanted hard copies of transcripts and which only wanted the uploaded electronic copy of an official transcript and sent accordingly. Most only wanted the uploaded electronic copy -- however, for some of these programs, in the application status section, it's telling me that my application is incomplete because they haven't received an official transcript -- is this just because the system has yet to download the document that I uploaded, or is it because they are expecting an official, hard copy of a transcript? Have I been misunderstanding transcript instructions?
