I think it's a tad suspicious that the Yale interview result was posted the same day (afternoon?) that someone (sorry, forgetting who!) said Yale would be interviewing. I'd bet good money it's fake.

It's so cool you've studied Romanian!! As a native speaker of another Romance language, I've always thought it would be an awesome language to learn...I think it's really interesting linguistically. Are you continuing to take courses now that you're in a PhD program (and has that been okay in terms of finding the time)?

This is obviously going to be different for different schools, but last night in a moment of panic I looked at the academic calendars of each of the schools I've applied to. I don't have the exact numbers (would an Excel spreadsheet/graph have been too neurotic? probably), but most hadn't had their first day of class yet. There were a few that started last week, and then of course the schools on quarters (Chicago, UCLA, Northwestern, etc) started eons ago. So...I'd say it's unlikely that most adcoms have looked at our files. At least that's what I'm telling myself! (And it's working...kind of...most of the time!)

Did they email you to tell you this, or did you just find out from the status check? I hadn't looked at the status check until now, and just spent 15 minutes panicking because I didn't see where it said "at department" on the status check and hadn't gotten an email from them... Ahh.

Congrats, goldielocks! That's a great way to start off the New Year! I looked at my calendar yesterday and couldn't believe that February 1 was exactly 4 weeks away (so soon!)...and then I realized that mid-March is actually more like 10 weeks away. This is going to be a fun next few months! I think I'm going to take up yoga again.
