It is unhelpful, to say the least. Maybe the GRE was that easy 10 years ago, but now it's tougher and the advice they give you, particularly in math review, is a joke. Do not become a statistic like me and study that book for months and then end up with a crap GRE score. I wish I had known better but c'est la vie. Princeton Review is TTT.

I'll be OK. Luckily, my least competitive schools are due earlier than my most competitive ones.
-
Thanks for the honest advice. I'm going to take a prep class and retake.
-
Thanks! I think my SOP and writing sample will prove that my verbal abilities are above par.
-
My programs don't really list the GRE scores except for Harvard (590 verbal, 649 math). Some of my schools don't even require a GRE. Yeah the rest of my application is excellent. Hopefully the GRE will look like a glitch. This is all true. I'm not taking it again, however. Let the cards fall where they may. Not at all, actually.

Just bombed the GRE for the second time! Yep, I'll just be glad of any school that lets me in at this point.

I studied for 5 months and took practice tests and still can't crack a 600 in either section. What is the deal? I'm an intelligent person, but the GRE keeps kicking my ass each time! Here are my scores: First attempt: 530 Verbal 310 Math 4.5 Writing Second attempt: 570 Verbal 250 Math ? Writing (I don't have my score yet) UGH it's so frustrating! I'm not taking it again, because even in my practice exams I score in the same range. I'm just not cut out for standardized tests obviously.

I take it tomorrow. I'm just gonna do my best. Let the cards fall where they may.

In this thread, we give each other advice for grad school
90sNickelodeon posted a topic in The Lobby
Hello newbs and seasoned grad school veterans! I am new to the game, and will be starting grad school (MA in Education Administration) next fall. What should I expect from professors? What are grad students like? What is the course load like? What about the lifestyle of a grad student--poor and stressed? Comfortable and happy as heck? ANY help that you can provide would be appreciated! -
This is true. It does depend on the program. I'm reaally concerned about grades in grad school. Never had a problem with grades as an UG, but I realize that it is going to be significantly tougher and more competitive. The thought of working full time while earning a master's seems unfun but I might end up doing so out of financial advantage.

Grad school is tough. You have to make straight A's in order to keep your awards/stay in the game. You have to do loads of reading and writing, far more than as an undergraduate. You have to network. This requires a lot of time and effort. Is it reasonable to think that a person could receive the full benefit of graduate school as a part-time student? Or, can only full-time students really enjoy and receive the full benefits of a graduate program. Please explain why or why not.

I do!! NaNo is a great way to krank out at least one book a year.

Anyone else applying to Ed programs this year?
90sNickelodeon replied to t_ruth's topic in Education Forums
I'm applying for a Masters in Higher Ed from several of the top ranking schools. We'll see what happens! -
Here are the facts: I have a full-time job, health insurance, and benefits. The only problem with said job is that it's pretty dead-end, and the pay is OK but could be far better. I'm thinking of returning to school to get my "career" started. However, in this bad economy, I am wondering if it is such a good idea to leave a steady job for school. Is anyone else in the same or a similar predicament? :|

Graduate school is nowhere near as fun as undergrad
90sNickelodeon replied to 90sNickelodeon's topic in The Lobby
Well my undergrad experience was an epic fail. Hopefully grad school, although it's a professional school, will be more fun. But then again, a trip to the dentist would be more fun than my undergrad experience. Here's to looking up! -
Or so I've heard. Anyone care to agree/disagree?

how much harder is the economy making it
90sNickelodeon replied to rollinstone's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I've actually decided to put off pursuing an MA degree to hold on to my job that gives me money and benefits. -
I'm really, really, REALLY terrible at economics
90sNickelodeon replied to 90sNickelodeon's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Cheers! -
And I know that many schools REQUIRE econ classes for International Affairs degrees. Let's face it, I'll just bomb those and might get kicked out of said program. So I need to know, how much econ did you have to take for your IR degree? Should I completely give up on an IR degree because of my idiocy in economics?

Princeton WWS Strengths/Weaknesses
90sNickelodeon replied to sisepuede's topic in Government Affairs Forum
If it weren't for the money, I'd never consider Princeton anyway. I mean if you compared what they offered in terms of an IR degree to a school like American, they really don't give you much. :? I spoke with an admissions counselor who said that their program is very GENERAL, but if you're looking for specific, look elsewhere. -

Haha nice. And they all come from prestigious undergrads, and if they didn't, they have some extraordinary story.
