  1. gah rejectd from chicago. oh well. got into one school that is a really good fit
  2. Anyonw wish to claim the Emory acceptance and elaborate how you found out, etc.
  3. It doesnt hurt to ask. It really doesnt. Especially if you cant sleep at night or are so worried you can concentrate. I'm sorry TMP, I'm not trying to say you're wrong, because you're not. People should be patient. But just know if you're SO worried and or curious its affecting you, then it doesn't hurt to call. I've called all the schools and asked w/o giving my name.
  4. You could always call the administrative assistants and ask them or the graduate coordinators.
  5. I agree. Its definitely the economy too. Because of all of these factors, I would just be glad to get in anywhere -- I really dont care if i'm fully funded or not. It just seems that no matter how hard you worked on your application or if you're a finalist, whatever, things can change in an instant and that sucks
  6. I think after the beginning of next week, there won't be that much going on until March. I know that Emory decisions are coming out soon and I don't know about Harvard, but five of the other schools I applied to won't be giving decisions until early march
  7. Cornell is not meeting until the end of february. So no one will know until then or early March. ugh
  8. And, not as exciting as the Ivies, but I did receive news that I got into U Arizona yesterday, which is one of my top choices. So, they're starting to send out other decisions soon FYI.
  9. I found out that Emory will be giving/making final decisions "by the end of this week". That piece of information was given to me on Monday.
  10. Congrats to everyone getting good news!!!
  11. No I was just freaking out......
  12. U CHICAGO!
  13. agreed. they see past my experience, my hard work, etc and just see the school.
  14. I don't think so. If you're a good candidate, you're a good candidate. If you're unique in whatever way, you're unique. Cornell asks people to write a diversity essay. What I don't think people understand is that it is not just limited to race for some schools.
  15. From what I've read, schools consider minority to be anything from a limited number of a particular race studying a field to first person in family to go to college. none of them really define what they are looking for in diversity.
  16. I thought I wAs the only one trying for the third time, but I come to find that second time around alot of ppl here like me got a funded ma and are applying now while finishing up a funded ma. I was bummed at first but, then I realized Im in a FUNDED ma program and can try again this year. And now ppl with MAs are more prepared now than b4 for a PhD. No worries. You have somewhere to go at the end of this process.
  17. Sorry for all the Brown rejections.
  18. Was Duke taking applications this year at all? There are so many rejections that it seems like they forgot to put that little memo on the website....
  19. No worries there is still plenty of time!!!!
  20. I asked if anyone could provide proof that it hurts to contact professors. And no one provided proof so I did it. I think I recall saying I wouldnt try it with the top schools. I never felt entitled. I was quite humble in my emails. And might I add, I got responses saying "I hope I see you in the fall". Maybe I lucked out with nice professors, but oh well. If everyone is going to get upset about it, then fine. I shared what I did since other people were sharing what they are doing too. My mistake.
  21. Oserius is right. Whats done is done and I don't regret it.
  22. Wow okay. My thesis is quite complex so I asked some questions. I was upfront about thanking them, and I'm sure they know why I'm emailing. I never pretended in my emails or on this forum why I emailed them. This forums all supportive until you step out of the box, huh?
  23. So i did contact two pois one at Emory and one at u Arizona....eep! One just said they are still on leave and remembers speaking with a recommend a few books for my thesis (small talk is a good start). The other said that they haven't begun to look at apps and wanted me to send my cv to see my chances and also recommended some books for my thesis (good ice breaker, no?) I genuinely wanted their advice for my thesis but I didn't hide the fact about the second reason I initiated contact. I wouldn't try it on Harvard or Cornell or u Chicago. But I'm feeling better by their responses!!! I'm just a bold person (or crazy I guess).
  24. Who got the wait list from johns Hopkins? I didn't get anything!!!
  25. I'll let everyone know what happens
