  1. Finally Monday.....hopefully we hear SOMETHING. ANYTHING.
  2. i dont think its the same thing. Its been floating around in other schools too and i'm sure its not the same
  3. haha I get that all the time. it actually refers to my first dog ever who passed away. Not to be bummed out
  4. Feeling better now than I did a week ago. CONFIDENT! If I get only one acceptance with funding, I will be happy.

  5. btw, that SUNY buffalo post was mine and its for FYI only for those applying to SUNY buffalo.
  6. As far as predictions go, I think will get rejcted from Harvard & Cornell & U Chicago, waitlisted at Emory & Johns Hopkins, and accepted to the rest. I'm trying to be realistic. Hopefully, I'm plesantly surprised.
  7. oh not at all. but that subject always interested me. Good luck!
  8. that's really awesome!
  9. Yo superfluousflo....what r u interested in?
  10. This interesting. I guess I have to agree with the Yale dean. I only freaked bc I thought all schools interviewed
  11. Well put. We are all nuts. And yea, we're freaking out in January. But like some said before, that is what this forum is for and to help us through the process. But it doesn't have to be a terrible thing or just because we are going nuts about it doesn't mean we should be labeled as a bunch of pansies for being nuts over admission decisions.
  12. I'm not trying to start a fight. But we're all working hard for this and we don't need a post like that telling us we're a buch of "nuts"
  13. Strange light, I can't say that I agree with you on this. That really sucks for those people you are talking about, but that doesn't make me any less anxious about the process. That guy with the newborn is not something that happens to everyone, panic attacks don't happen to everyone. I can certainly feel for the guy that can't find a job, though, but he has a better chance of finding a job in academia than me right now. Getting a phd is something most of us have dreamed of getting because most of us want to be taken riotously in academia, want to teach at a university level, or do research. With a ba and a ma, I can only present at conferences and be humored, but I can't be on a committee concerning international relations, I can't be a department head to try to improve a history department, or I can't be considered an expert. For some of us, this is our life. This is what determines what we do with our lives. For some of us, if we don't get in, then we will be lost and really freaking out because this is what we have been working for in the past four plus years. Unlike some people who chose to go into business world, got screwed, and are now running into the academic world into history departments and claiming they want to study "the history of us economics" or "French economics" and sound so interesting that these schools eat it up and accept them even though afterwards they have no intention of doing research or teaching, some of us REALLY need this. I'll thank you to not take the absolute worst case scenarios and try to deter me from taking this seriously, being diligent, and anxious. Being anxious is the reason why my application is complete (because despite the fact that I was so sure everything was sent it, my anxiousness made me call in to check and then resend). Hindsight is 20/20. Its so easy to tell us to chill the eff out while already enrolled in a program.
  14. It definitely makes me feel better to know that other people are just as nervous and having trouble with this whole process as I am. It makes me realize that you dont have to be perfect in this process to get in somewhere and we are all just human. It also makes me feel better to see "congrads" being thrown around because its not cut throat like some other programs
  15. I don't think that any of the programs I applied to had interviews but after seeing Yale and some othe rhumanities programs having interviews this year (which is relatively new), I'm just getting nervous. It didnt happen last year with humanities like art history and anthropology, or even history at all.
  16. I know that this has been a question in different topics, but has anyone heard about interviews being conducted anywhere outside of Yale University, American History? Its freaking everyone out, including me.
  17. I would say just to apply to it's history department for whatever your interested in. They have public history and thesis track history. They have a funded ma program too which is quite rare since most ma programs aren't funded. They have it only because they have only a terminal ma program and not a phd program. Give them a look.
  18. I think its a big week because some schools begin making final decisions? Mid february is when we would find out, next week is when they would start putting emails, packages, etc together to send to people; so this week is when final decisions are made. Thats just a guess, I don't know for certain. As for the interviews at Yale, thats a relatively new thing my friend said. Why are they doing that? Its beginning to freak me out too.
  19. The waiting game REALLY sucks

  22. I think that it depends on the school and its also ability mostly. I also think that the entire committee that looks at applications makes the determination. And given the economy, it is NEVER taboo to bring up money.
  23. So, I sent my GRE scores to cornell twice (the last time during the holiday). ETS says they sent it in the first time, but my application status says it hasnt been received. Do schools just throw out applications for not getting in GRE scores on the deadline? Im freaking out like crazy.
