  1. I fail to see how OWS will end up as anything but an amusing anecdote in the history books. What exactly have they accomplished other than showing they are more than willing to wallow in their own excrement because, "They're mad, damnit!"
  2. Yes, both I think are true. That said, I fail to see a problem here. I don't care HOW they fund me, just that they do.
  3. lost my senior thesis that way. Thankfully, I had emailed a draft a few days before to my advisor, so had at least an older version
  4. A lot of schools that only offer a Master's do fund their students. Maybe look into a place like that to get some experience.
  5. Undergrad Institution: 2nd tier state school, commuter school, close to home and cheap M.A. Program: state technical/agricultural school. Well respected in some fields, underrepresented in mine. 6. I am going to be in one of the cities where I applied on business anyway, so was just not sure if it would be appropriate to see if I could arrange a visit while I was in town. It seems a bit forward, I know. At this point, not sure if it would help or hurt. Maybe I'll just call and ask, nothing lost that way.
  7. You all who are still in school are the lucky ones. Right now, aside from my work duties, I have nothing to keep me really sane. Quick question, has anyone done, or are you all planning any campus visits or interviews in the next couple of weeks?
  8. They are accredited through US accreditation agencies, so your degree will be just as valid on this side of the pond as the other. I know they are well regarded in europe. Their press puts out a lot of good works. Budapest is a great city. Aside from that, don't know much more.
  9. but let's be honest. A real grad student recipe. Ramen 3 kinds. boil water, our over 3 packs of noodles. Mix chicken, beef and shrimp flavor packets, pour over the noodles.
  10. Ranch potato salad 5 lbs red potatoes, cubed and boiled, leave skin on. place potatoes in fridge for at least 2 hours to cool. Mix: 1 C. Mayonnaise 1 C. sour cream 3/4 C. chopped green onions 1-1oz packet ranch dressing mix mix and refrigerate 2 hours so mix settles and tastes blend. at least 1 lb crispy bacon, crumbled. (more is better, bacon is just awesome). Mix everything together before you serve. It's even better the next day if you refrigerate overnight.
  11. Military stuff. 12 series refers to my MOS-Military Occupational Specialty. 12 series MOS used to be engineers, now that has changed to 21 series. I was a 12B-combat engineer. OIF is Operation Iraqi Freedom. OEF is Operation Enduring freedom. I got out of the military right before that kicked off, but did serve as part of KFOR-Kosovo Force. PERSEC is personal security. And I tracked what he was saying like a blue tick.
  12. The issue with funding is less about the tuition as it is the money you have to have on deposit for a visa to the UK, from what I gather.
  13. drunk history is AWESOME!
  14. I was advised that it's very hard to get a job in the US with a foreign degree (Oxbridge being about the only exceptions). Central European University's Master's program is however accredited through US accreditation agencies.
  15. lesson learned: don't post drunk. Yes, old 12B, but not from OIF, KFOR. And no, just made this name up on a whim, never used it before. Sorry to offend. And I was speaking of the few conferences I've been to. Some papers were great, others, no so much and were probably just jotted down on a napkin. Basically, some conferences are way laid back, supportive, especially of grad students. Others, not so much. Again sorry.
  16. Honestly, don't sweat a conference paper too hard unless it's a big conference that people are trying to make a name for themselves like AHA. Most of your small type conferences, half the full professors write their paper like the day before on a napkin it seems. Once you pop your paper cherry, it's much easier from then on. Which conference are you hoping to submit to?
  17. On one level I know this. On another level, I am just getting crazier by the day and worried more and more that I didn't get in or something. I know I'm not being rational about all this, but the wait is just killing me.
  18. Is anyone getting any interviews or any sort of feedback from any schools? Anyone going for a campus visit or something?
  19. PAT conferences are great, but never been to the ones in Florida. Great place to get your feet wet presenting a paper without having people looking to stomp all over it.
  20. Hi all, I was sure I wasn't going to get crazy about this process, but I cracked and here I am. Anyone have any good news they care to report yet?
