UT Austin Acceptances should be coming soon
Supernovasky replied to Supernovasky's topic in Sociology Forum
Judging from the lack of a wave of acceptances being reported, and the guy not coming here to claim it, I'm going to assume he probably was just in contact with a professor who informed him early that he was getting in. By assume, I mean HOPE BEYOND HOPE. -
My laugh was one of nervous stress.

Well, I emailed at least 12 professors today, 1-2 from each school I am going to. Just last night, 30 minutes after sending one, I got a reply! It was short and sweet, just her thanking me for emailing her and saying good luck and she'll be looking out for my application, but still... she really is a professor I could see myself working with!

So it begins... lol. I'm feeling a little nervous about my UT Austin one... and then I know its like, 5 weeks until the rest of the programs start informing.

UT Austin Acceptances should be coming soon

Eitehr way, we can probably expect a wave of acceptances on Monday-Wednesday timeframe if the second case is true, or a ton of postings over this weekend if the former is true. -

I am hoping the later part of that is true, being that the comment was "4 years, more information soon..." -

Not quite a "wave." Just one guy. Nobody else seems to have gotten anything else so we can all breathe easy. Getting accepted into UT Austin would be enormous for me. It would elimiante 90% of the stressors in my life right now. -
Hahaha... I mean in some ways, yes, but you'd honestly have to be a fool to hope to get into a lower ranked school in a nice place that you could move to later, over one of your top choices. But, I do know how you feel. Personally right now, after having discovered someone already got a UT acceptance, I'll be happy anywhere!

Well, someone is clearly reporting they got a saturday acceptance. You are correct, it does seem it is for the demography program, so maybe that explains the weird acceptance day. I know though that in years past, there seemed to be two rounds... Jan 15-18th, and then the end of the month. I'm checking my gmail compulsively right now lol... -

Looks like someone is already claiming a UT- Austin admission. Anyone wanna claim it here? Now I'm nervous... UT Austin is going to be a huge benchmark for my application. -
The way Ihave it set up, the lower ranked schools that I applied to are in areas of the country I would LOVE to live. The higher ranked programs, I didn't care too much about location.

Weight given to GRE sections across disciplines
Supernovasky replied to hopefulJD's topic in Sociology Forum
Question on this... I got a 1240 on my GRE. Not great, not horrable. My math portion was better (in terms of percentile) than my verbal, but not by much. However, my math GPA is high, with a litany of statistics and calculus classes (I believe I had a 3.6) going all the way up to DifEq. So do you think that a proven success in math in college classes will outweigh a mediocre math score on the GRE? -
God I've been checking every school's aplication status page 3 times a day. "Your application is complete. The admissions committee is reviewing your application."
-
Dude, me too. I keep refreshing EVERY site at least twice a day.
-
Yeah man, the OP has nothing to worry about, lol. He's got solid, stellar stats (if indeed he's going for sociology, instead of poli sci).
-
I'd also like to add that I've got very high math skills which helps for the field of sociology I'm trying to go into (Quantitative and Social Research Methods), and a 3.7 GPA. I dont know man. Half my brain is saying that I am a perfect fit for a lot of these schools and their programs. Half my brain is questioning whether or not they'll see me the same way I see myself.
-
You think you are worried... I applied to only 2 "safety" schools, and 2 top 20s, and a rank 40-50 school... and I only have a 1240 on my GRE, no MA, although I am confident in my writing sample, supremely confident in my LORs, and I've got published research (though not in sociology, in educational research). I have the same worries right now.

I also would not mind demography (it would involve me kind of changing what I feel my thesis and research goals would be, but I feel I'd also have a strength in it as well). -

Quantitative methods in sociology and social research methods are where I feel I have the strongest backgrounds and most interest. -

Hoping I'll be joining you as a fellow student, friend! Got my fingers crossed. The amount of nervousness, excitement, and anticipation I feel right now is unparalleled. -
That's what I hear from friends, people on this forum, and researching when the acceptances were sent out last year. I'm hoping to hear something this next week! UT Austin is going to be a HUGE barometer for my application. Not getting in there would probably cut me out from a couple other places I applied to. I'm nervous but excited at the same time. Everyone ready for the decisions to start rolling in from all of these schools? Its coming soon!
