  1. Whats up with the picture? lol
  2. Alright, that helps, I was not soc of rel... Thanks for the inside info! lol
  3. True, but there are people reporting acceptance emails, and everyone that seems to email about their status gets an email back from the coordinator saying how competitive it has been and that their application was denied... So I REFUSE to email the coordinator! lol
  4. Seeing these cartoons helps me realize I'm not the only one going through this.
  5. I am going to be so excited there is no way that I COULDN'T post it on facebook. Plus, all my friends need to know where I'm going.
  6. Smoke a giant bowl, drink a lot of beer, and hopefully survive to even make it to grad school!
  7. I'm a second time applicant. My plan B is to move to a whole new town, work for another year, save up a lot of money, and apply to 20 graduate schools next time, that way ONE of them has GOT to let me in, right?
  8. My god, this is a stressful process. Last year I applied to two universities, put absolutely no effort into my application, and got denied by both expectedly. This year, I applied to five (not enough money to apply to more), put a TON of effort into my application, got great LORs, drew up a much more effective curriculum vitae, wrote a new writing sample and got it edited, and even have proposals for research. Haven't heard back from one yet. Its looking like UT Austin already made its sociology acceptances, although the professor I got in contact with said "decisions wont be complete until two more weeks." Its killing me. At least my status is still "under review" at all 5, haha.
  9. Love it, describes exactly how I feel and what I do EVERY time I see an email go to my "official" account on my android phone.
  10. I hope this isn't the case. The professor I spoke with DID say that "All decisions will be made within the next 2 weeks." So there is a possibility they are undecided on some as of yet.
  11. Looking like acceptance emails may have gone out on the 20th-21st... I wonder if they are done, or if they are still deciding on some applicants.
  12. Was it you who reported that Jan 20th acceptance?
  13. Ok, so they pretty much have rejections, they just haven't sent notifications to those who they have rejected yet. I'm going to wait and keep my fingers crossed in hope. Hopefully this works like Schrodinger cat... I am neither accepted or denied until I open the box. I'm going to let them tell me whats up when they are ready... lol.
  14. And did you report a rejection via email just now? Because someone did in the results section.
  15. Palito, who was your POI? Thanks for all the info by the way
  16. Ah, alright. Well, I see why you called. I'm just going to let the process play out.
  17. Sounds like they are being made on a case-by-case rolling basis, and that not all decisions have been made yet... judging from the acceptance we got up there, the acceptance from your friend, and your knowledge of your rejection. This isn't some "batch of acceptance/denial" emails that have been sent out. I spoke to one professor I've contacted. She said the applicant pool was very competitive, but did not have information on my status and that's all she told me. Did you call Evelyn or did she call you? Or was this over email?
  18. Palito : What does your UT Austin admissions status from their website reflect?
  19. I notice someone got a UC Boulder notification. This is one of the universities I am very much wanting to study at, both for location and for the focus of some of their professors. Does someone want to claim the Boulder notification and tell us about it?
  20. I'm REALLY wishing I had applied to more now. I just didnt have the moeny to.
  21. If one of their acceptance criteria is "how many times does this student log in with his EID to check his status?" I'd be a shoe in.
  22. Because it IS kind of like survivor, lol. One less person is one slightly higher chance that either of us get admitted. UT Austin would be incredible wouldn't it? haha. Interesting that she contacted the graduate coordinator... from reading the comments in the survey results up there, look at past years from the sociology at UT austin program and process... A lot of people got denied "after placing a call/contacting the coordinator."
  23. She said she "didn't know the status" and I was not going to push the issue any further. The point of the email was not to get any admissions information from her, just to keep contact with a professor that I can see myself working with. But it does feel good to know we've still got 2 weeks worth of aps... and my ap still says under review, so if some aps have already been denied, then our chances are up!
  24. Talking to the professor of interest that I've contacted there, I've learned that the true admissions process won't be over probably for another two weeks. She said that the applicant pool is very competitive this year. Here's to hoping that my level of competition can match!
  25. Love them!
