  1. I'm applying to their painting and drawing program. I was told to expect a mailed response by sometime around the first couple weeks of March.
  2. I emailed UO, and they said we would be notified mid to late March. Did UW tell you they would be notifying in late March? I couldn't get an answer from them. Good luck to you too!
  3. Mine doesn't even have the section called "Decision". Odd...
  4. Did some asking and I found out... For those applying to UNM, I've been told they will mail out decisions by the first week of March. And UNT said they will notify grads by March 1st. Tyler said 4-6 weeks, which is (I'm assuming) from the date of the application deadline (which would make it right around now). Some of you have already heard back, so I'm trying to not get my hopes up for Tyler at this point, but who knows.
  5. I applied to UW, UO, and UNM too. Still waiting to hear back from any of them. Good luck!
  6. So I'm guessing since there's no email, Tyler is out for me :/ Congratulations to all the finalists though!
  7. I enjoy the classic "Concerning the Spiritual in Art" by Kandinsky. He tends to ramble a bit...but hey...its Kandinsky!
  8. Apparently I applied to all the schools that wait the longest to make decisions! Lol. I'd almost prefer a rejection to this deafening silence...but I won't go that far
  9. So, I realize the job outlook for post-secondary art teachers isn't that great if you want to teach at a large university afterwards, but does anyone know the general outlook for the lower tiers...such as community colleges and small private universities? Is it equally dismal? Just curious...
  10. I'm also interested in the typical scenario in which these interviews occur. Do we have to buy our own plane ticket for each of the schools that want an interview, or do schools offer assistance in some way? Or skype?
  11. Good to know! Thanks!
  12. I'll post a link to my website when I finish it, but I actually make around 10 paintings/year at this point. The artists that only make 2 or 3 a year are generally the ones that make the gigantic epic/mural sized or ridiculously detailed paintings, but I don't include myself in that group. In general though, I think the measure of a good artist should have nothing to do with how many paintings are produced in a year, but instead the merit of the works themselves...but I realize that's just my opinion.
  13. I considered that, but ultimately decided against applying for some additional reasons. That was just one of the big ones. They also seem to have a reputation around here for being extremely selective, so I figured I didnt have a chance against the applicants that actually made that many works within the last 2 years. Perhaps that was a bad call. Either way, if I don't get in somewhere this round, I'll definitely apply there next year.
  14. Ah, cool, just making sure I didn't make some huge error. I was also gonna apply to UT Austin, but they required a portfolio of 20 works within the last two years, which I thought was a little ridiculous. Many (famous) artists only produce 2 or 3 works a year...
  15. @berto - I mailed everything out (in one packet) to U. Washington on Jan. 13th and their website is just now showing that they received everything as of "Jan. 24th" (today).

  17. Thats awesome! Glad I applied to both of those places! And yes, the family housing at U. Oregon is one of the things that attracted us the most initially.
  18. What school(s) did you see that offered?
  19. @losemygrip You said I had an "interesting" list. Just curious what you mean by that..is it a good interesting or an AHH! WHAT IS HE THINKING!? lol.
  20. Is anyone aware of programs that help with child care costs?
  21. Is anyone applying to or currently in an MFA program while simultaneously balancing a family? I, myself, have a 9-month old and a wife. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. Any tips out there? Am I the only one?
  22. I considered Texas Tech, but the ranking seemed pretty low and I need to be sure I have a shot at a post-secondary teaching job after getting my MFA. Do you think they are reputable enough? @berto - thanks for the Seattle info. That gives me some hope. We'll see what happens, but if I get accepted, I'm thinking flying up there to check it out first will be a must.
  23. Tyler is really only my last choice (in my list of six) because of location on the east coast. I keep it in my list because it seems like the program is phenomenal. But I'm married and have a 9-month old, so we would really rather move somewhere closer to our family (none of which are anywhere near Philly). If it weren't for that, Tyler would be #1. I visited U New Mexico, but was underwhelmed by their facility, which felt closer to a prison than a place of education. I'm sure the painting professors make up for it, but I didn't get to meet any of them since it was a weekend. ?
  24. So, I'm new here but I was just curious if anyone has any comments about the following schools (that I've applied to for Painting/Drawing). If I get accepted, its going to be REALLY difficult to decide between them. They are University of Washington, University of New Mexico, University of Oregon, University of Houston, Tyler School of Art, and University of North Texas. I realize that Tyler is the best ranked program, but it's my last choice in most other ways. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful. Also, is anyone aware of which are the best in terms of leaving without much debt? Thanks!
