  1. thanks, OregonGal. fortunately it's the UO for me. I'll message you with any questions!
  2. i have to move across the country (NJ to OR, woot!) in august. just checked out padmapper---wow, so useful!! thanks to all who mentioned it! fortunately there are some really great grad students in my program who would check out places for me if i asked. this should make the move a bit easier. now, to find that money tree and get some cash to make the move...
  3. I applied for Comp Lit (PhD) but still haven't heard anything. I checked the website and it only says "Submitted" but no decision yet. Fortunately I have an acceptance elsewhere already, but Washington would be a contender if I were accepted. lolifer, were you accepted to the MA or PhD?
  4. i had my first skype interview this application season. my best advice is to PRACTICE! not just what you say, but what you're wearing, what's behind you, and so on. my mom gave me recommendations about how certain colors looked on her computer and stuff like that. my interview wasn't long (about 20 minutes) and the professors were very nice. also practice because i found looking directly at the camera rather than at the faces onscreen difficult to get the hang of. i used a wireless connection and didn't have any problems, but if yours isn't quite stable you'll want an ethernet cord. one more thing: if you live in a house with other people (as i do), graciously ask that they refrain from showering/partying/cooking or talking loudly during the interview. while i was practicing with my mom someone started to take a shower, and she said it sounded very loud on her end. i'm glad that happened so i could ask people not to do that during the real interview.
  5. i'm a comp lit applicant, too! and also a berkeley reject...not that i expected to get in. would have been cool, though! did get an interview elsewhere, though, and i'm keeping my fingers crossed for some east coast schools. good luck, all! nice to know there are other interdisciplinarians out there like me
  6. I'm writing my thesis! It's on semiotics, translation theory, and the Phaedra myth, so it's a cross between literature and language stuff. Intro is done, but I have to keep moving on it...have lots to write!
