  1. Speaking from last years’ experience, Nic School was definitely on a rolling basis. I submitted my Duke application around mid-Dec (just before Yale's deadline since I did all applications together). And I heard from Duke two days before their deadline (which was late Jan I recall) with my decision. For me, applying early gave me a lot of certainty later on, but as to how much this had increased my odds - I really don't know. All the best!
  2. Aha after all that wait for U Mich's dual degree programme, I finally got an offer for their Masters in "Environmental Engineering". Not sure if I made a mistake in my application or Ruckham simply thought "Environmental Management" + " Chemical Engineering" = "Environmental Engineering". Umm......
  3. Thanks a lot MGrubs! And congrats MGrubs and jhuffine on your acceptance to Bren
  4. Thanks a lot WanderingUrchin. Seems like it is expected that on Day 1 that you come in with a clear idea of what you want to do. That's not so much of an issue as I am definitely interested in EE. My problem is that I also find certain aspects of the Global Environmental Change concentration interesting, and would love to be able to get the best out of both worlds. As a result I may not finish the set requirement of either EE or GEC. So in a way, I will be mixing EE and GEC and creating my own "concentration" (as kamnamurt pointed out). Is anyone able to comment a bit more on the possibility of doing this? Much appreciated!
  5. Thanks curlie-sue and biggytre for the information. Did you guys have the chance to gauge the approximate p.a. cost of attending the Nic School (all up) from the current students? Also would love any info you might have on "double specialising". Many thanks!
  6. Only $10k for one year from FES, no way! Guess Nic School now comes back into the picture for me. Also I presume everyone else has heard back from SNRE one way or the other? Guess I got the so called "silent rejection"
  7. Not a word yet sorry, I think they are aiming to have the info out by early this week. I also remember reading that Yale's aid packages may also be country specific for international students (more for students from demographically under-represented areas). But I can't remember where exactly I read this from.
  8. In terms of reputation, I personally think FES and Nicholas are more a less on par in the field. So the biggest contributing factor to my preference in MEM @ FES is the fit of their programme. I am particularly interested in Industrial Env. Management and the Sustainable Urban and Industrial Systems focus ticked most of the boxes on my list of aims. There is also a strong emphasis on Industrial Ecology at FES due to the presence of the Center of Industrial Ecology as well as the considerable number of faculty members associated to it. So there is likely to be a sophisticated network of knowledge already in place in this particular track I am hoping to go down. Also as MCRM pointed out, Yale does appear to be more generous to international students. The one year package I received from Duke is simply too humble in light of the colossal costs of grad school.
  9. In as well, congrats to others who got in Anyone still waiting on SNRE here? Still no words from them. So currently a tossup between FES and Nicholas. FES seems to have a strong enough focus on the industrial side, but Nicholas has an amazing alum network. Guess will have to wait for the financial figures to make the final call.
  10. Thanks MCRM for all this info! By the sounds of it the decision-making process probably is already done and dusted (220/578), they are just waiting for the right time to release what we have been desperately hoping for for months.
  11. That's my guess too, this Friday looks like a possible candidate
  12. Congrats! Maybe it's due to the fact that you applied for dual degree there?
  13. Just got into Bren on 2nd of March. No financial info till April though - sigh
  14. @jbr00ks9 - Thanks a lot for all that information! @fraek88 - Haha I see, no wonder your admission letter did not resemble mine even the slightest. @cambosoup11 - Congratulations!
  15. Thanks bsgrok. Yeah I second what cunninglynguist said. Yale really doesn't place too much empasis on your GRE scores. I had a chat with their Admissions Director Angela Kuhne about this once, and she said GRE will only swing your fate one way or the other when the overall strength of your application is on the borderline. The more important factors (if you are coming directly from undergrad) are your academic standing and your commitment to the field of environment. I personally think these elements alone are sufficient for the AdCom to have a strong enough opinion on you - so don't dwell too much on your GRE scores.
  16. Congrats fraek88! I have not heard a word from Duke regarding their internship opportunities. How did you hear about the relevant information?
  17. @bsgrok: For FES I am also in the same boat as you - fresh out of undergraduate with no professional work experience (only research + internships). So I know how it feels. But you mentioned 3 or 4 out of 7 admitted from China were straight out of undergraduate? That's a surprisingly high percentage. I wonder if you have any insight as to whether that figure is exclusively to Chinese applicants, or is also applicable to internationals from other countries. All I know is that the overall percentage of students admitted directly from undergrad is usually a lot lower. Anyway fingers crossed! @biggytre: Congratulations!! Maybe we won't have to wait till April to hear our verdicts this year. @LHL: My intended specialisation is along the lines of energy and/or industrial environmental management, given that I am a chemical engineer. I probably will not have the luxury to attend any of the open-houses events, since even the closest one will still be more than 7,000 miles away. So hypothetically if I am admitted to more schools, I will have to weight-up the merits of each programme against the net costs of attending - hopefully there will be a clear winner!
  18. Really sorry to hear tiredwaiting.. But really hope U-M and Delaware work out for you I only did the diversity statement for Yale. Basically drawing on my background as a Fulbrighter from New Zealand. (They haven't had a single student from this part of the world for the last 4 years!) I also mentioned a bit about my technical background (albeit it being a more common trait).
  19. Congrats cunninlynguist and MGrubs! Looks like SNRE is doing it through the mail this year, which unnecessarily prolongs the wait for those of us overseas.
  20. Not me, although my intended concentration is SS. Hopefully this week will be a good one for everyone!
  21. Congrats cunninlynguist and tiredwaiting!!
  22. Congrats curlie-sue! By the way there was another Yale MEM decision posted up on RS just then. It just seems unlikey that so many people have mistaken the "Masters" option for the "PhD" one. My heart misses a beat everytime I see a post like that
  23. Congrats harawzx! Yeah cunninlyguist according to your calender it is about time for SNRE to make/break our dreams, at least a few people's to start with...
