Waiting it Out on Canadian Universities

I am still waiting! I emailed the admissions coordinator today but it turns out she's no longer working there So I was redirected to a generic email and the response was that everyone should hear back by the end of the month. I've noticed some people have received acceptances AND rejections to the program I applied for... -
Do you think I can get a mortgage while I'm in school? Ha! (maybe?)
-
I'm waiting to hear back for the MLA! Mine still says 'under review' but apparently someone got their acceptance yesterday. I have heard they're very slow at getting them all out and that last year a friend of a classmate receive her acceptance in late April. Definitely hard on the nerves when you see people are being accepted.

My undergrad GPA wasn't great either, a little lower than most programs require - but mostly because I was distracted by other activities and I had never considered grad school. This year I'm doing a 'qualifying' year, taking 3rd and 4th year classes at University of Toronto (where I did undergrad). Apparently it's pretty common and a lot of schools will primarily consider you based on that GPA, as long as you have other assets/experience. Maybe that's an option? I haven't heard back yet either, but if I don't get in, I'm going to give it another shot. I think what I'd change in another round of applications is doing some more volunteer work, trying to get an interesting contract position in a related field, and spending more time on my portfolio and statement (tough to do while in school again full time and still working!).

Yesterday: Tax return statement - i was hoping there was an error and I'd get more back, but it's right A packet of flyers - my dog(s) chewed them up this morning

I wish we had weekend mail. Yesterday: Grocery flyer, Xtreme Fitness flyer. And now I'm also trying to figure out why the government put $650 in my account. It's either my tax return at 50% of what I was expecting (and need to pay rent) or maybe it's HST/GST credits I didn't get!

hey, what do you guys think about having kids while in grad school. I've been told it's the way to go, but only from people without kids.

I'm just turning 31 but I'm definitely feeling some of the above issues. I'm limited to where I can go (basically Toronto) because my husband works in film so there aren't really any other options for him. I am leaving a great job in a related field to go back to school. We rent in the city, though what we pay could be mortgage payments elsewhere - we love our neighbourhood and apt. and don't want to move. When I first inquired about my eligibility for loans, I basically had a 22 year old bank representative SCOLD me for expecting to be able to maintain a certain standard of living. She basically said I'd better be willing to rent a crappy basement apartment and get rid of my dogs!?! If I do get in, I still have to figure out how to pay for it AND make rent/groceries etc. eep!

University of Toronto-any news 2012 fall?
Michelleelleh replied to gexinhmily's topic in Waiting it Out
I know they just opened my application on Friday - my status was finally updated online. I'm expecting to hear by via postal in mid-March. I had a friend who got in for her English Masters a few years ago and she heard in March as well. Not sure about Ph.D programs - it probably varies. -
Waiting it Out on Canadian Universities - 2012

Yesterday my application status finally changed from "Documents Pending" to "Under Review". Yay! They opened my envelope! -
Over the past two weeks, I've already decided I'm not getting in and I've identified five programs I intend to apply for next round. I think I'll almost be disappointed if I actually do get in this year!
