  1. Congrats to all those accepted, and good luck to those waitlisted or waiting for the next round. I decided to accept an offer from The Studio for Interrelated Media at MassArt. If there is anyone else who will be attending MassArt, please message me.
  2. MassArt emailed me an acceptance letter today. I applied to the SIM program. Anyone have any thoughts on declining offers for another try next year applying to more favorable schools?
  3. Time to clarify the ambiguity. Success here is not fame or "personal success", but in a sense of favor. Also, Morin's success, not fame, may be due to his getting others to agree with him, hence pleasing others.
  4. Thanks. It seems the only good thing to come out of all this rejection is knowing what not to do, and by elimination, try to please the commitee.
  5. Congrats to the accepted! Best of luck, but I am not one of them. Sulking in coming to terms with a second round, I offer my thoughts on non-acceptance. Often, it is the case that success is not contingent upon a matter of time dedicated to improvement towards prefection of personal interest, but rather upon doing what others like or prefer. Like many of us, I have spent a great deal of time and study trying to nourish my practice, my ideas, and my artwork with my own interests. Evidently, dedication is optimistic bullshit. Those who were accepted may disagree, claiming dedication is what got them accepted. But this is a fallacy, it may be the case that your work, by accident, catered to the commitee and they liked it. If dedication to personal interests is the key, then most all of us should be accepted. If dedication is worth any value of success, it must be dedication to serving the interests of others. Here is to the non-accepted, Cheers!
  6. I applied to the SIM program and was interviewed by Professor Moser and others not two weeks ago. I have yet to hear anything.
  7. Rejected by NYU Steinhardt. I would prefer just "REJECTED" over the bs. I dont need some fake apologetic rationalized response to make it all seem ok. A rejection is a rejection, thats it. If anything, tell me exactly why I got rejected.
  8. Sorry to hear that. Best of luck on the other schools.
  9. Just finished my interview with MassArt. Still have yet to hear from any other programs. No email from Hunter, Im not sure what to think about that.
  10. Different schools have different policies. I looked into mine and found out they disable it two years after graduation. You might check with your school to find out. Then maybe you can transfer or save any emails or files of importance.

  13. I got an email from NYU Gallatin yesterday. They requested more materials, which is, I hope, indicative of interest in accepting me. So, if anyone applied to NYU Gallatin, stay in there!
  14. Thats good to know. I have an interview with MassArt next week. How long did it last????
  15. Email today from MassArt said I am a finalist and need to schedule an interview. Its a good first response. Good luck everyone!
  16. I got the email as well, and freaked out a little too. Gallatin and Columbia are at the top of my list of schools. Im relieved to see this thread. Best of luck to everyone!
  17. That is terrible luck! Surely, the schools should be understandable of the circumstances. This is my biggest worry right now. Its been a year since I graduated and I know my school email will be disabled soon. I just hope I hear back before this happens.
  18. Looking back, the whole app process can be a crazy stressful time for us, and often things happen that we dont expect. We laugh now, but oh how devestated we were. For me it was SoHo, my beloved external hard drive, breaking just hours before I needed to upload my portfolio. As I connected the usb cable the port on the hard drive fell into the case, im guessing cause it got too hot. I couldnt believe it!! All my work was on SoHo! I took it apart, screaming "why, why, why!" Once I noticed I couldnt fix it, I tore apart my apartment looking for a cable to fit the other port that still worked. Somehow, I found one in my closet. As I type this, the hard drive is still in pieces on my desk. Oh, the madness of grad apps!!
  19. Those publications are nutritious as well. However, there are ALOT of art magazines to choose from, it just depends on what your interests are. But, i do think Artforum is my favorite. There is also a great book for artists by philosopher Joseph Margolis titled, "What, After All, Is a Work of Art?".

  21. This is an odd thread, maybe misplaced. I thought art students hate reading. At least this is what I often hear from other disciplines outside art departments. Myself, I read very little art books. Although, I do make it a duty to read my monthly ARTFORUM. I do read 3 to 6 hours everyday, mostly analytic philosophy books. Im currently reading "The Linguistic Turn" by the pragmatist Richard Rorty and "Philosophy and Conceptual Art" edited by Peter Goldie. And I agree with randomroad, Danto's "Andy Warhol" was a fun read.

  23. I have yet to hear from Steinhardt, or any other school I applied to.
