Anyone lived in University Village? it seems like a pretty sweet place
  4. Its probably better to actually get a degree in physics, chemistry, biology or computer science and take geology/environmental classes on the side. Well at least thats my opinion.
  5. This isn't for any kind of engineering. This is Earth Science. No one here has heard from those programs.
  6. I had two. The first was working with my advisor at my ugrad on icy satellite tectonics . The second was an internship at LDEO in physical oceanography and volcanology. Since I liked both... I realized i needed to do both fluid mechanics and solid rock physics.... just finding programs was a little difficult.
  7. Francis totally grilled my poster 2 years ago at AGU... definitely intense, but brilliant none the less.
  8. The field is pretty small... the same 50 or so students get accepted to tho the same places... waiting for them to make a decision while us in the tedium must wait.
  9. there is a difference between MA and MSc though Kitkat. Usually MSc is research/thesis based... while MA is very much class heavy. i would be weary of getting an MA over an MSc unless its thesis based
  10. This is something i am struggling with to... I've been offered a funded MS with a dept that really fits me well.
  11. Its ok...it looks like non official MSc offer i got is with a person who was advised by my POI at brown... so the type of research hasn't been lost just the school
  12. I got a reply from someone in the nohow at columbia.... 17 have been taken in early admission... they will take 31 total students this year.
  13. Hi, so it looks like I'm going to be offered a funded MSc which is great but Its a smaller department. My advisor has a strong research program, meaning he publishes every year in work im really interested in. I am worried that after I get my MSc, when I apply to PhD programs that my application will be rejected because I got it at a smaller smaller/low ranked program. Its a thesis based masters. Anyone have any clue to this?
  14. Get a really nice polartec jacket... and wear a star trek tie
  15. AGU is pretty much a contest of which Geologist has the highest tolerance.
  16. I think thats right, at least on the columbia front. That would be in line with what my inside sources say... as they are both in the climate and ocean physics division.
  17. I dont know, but you should email your POI. Congratz on getting accepted
  18. So my most trusted LOR got called by one of the grad schools (I do not know which) Saying that i was seriously considered for a position but he was asking about my Low GPA (3.12, T_T). According to my LOR the person made it seem that it was the only dimple in my other wise great application, I wonder if this is a really bad thing or not. I think im going to go freeze myself in Liquid Nitrogen.
