  1. Gneiss1 and stell4, Thank you for your advice. I have been "bumping" as my dad would say, with many programs I am thinking about. Luckily, most of them have spots available still! I'm not used to hearing that After speaking with programs, my GRE is average, if you can believe that. I'm still in denial/don't know if I believe them. Going back to earn a certificate in SPED is definitely my ultra back up. I know i'm over sitting around waiting for something cool to happen, so I can't wait to get started...on either route I have to go.
  2. Hi, I have a rough draft of my SoP for special education. I was wondering if anyone would mind running through it to make sure i'm hitting the marks. I'd be more than willing to send it in a pm. Thanks for helping!
  3. Hi guys, I decided after applying for two years, and unable to get in a program it was time to switch things up. I have an undergrad in Speech Pathology, and being out of school this year i've had lots of free time. To take up some time, I have been subbing in my local elementary schools. With this experience, I'm pretty sure I have found my true calling. Special Education. I realized what drew me into speech was the young type of clientele I could work with, these guys are the same that I can work with as a SPED teacher. I come home happy, refreshed and feeling like I made a difference for the better for these kids. Now that I know what my new direction is, I'm planning on earning initial SPED while completing a Masters at the same time. Has anyone gone through a program like this? Did it work well for you? I'm terrified of not getting into a program, as my undergrad GPA ended up being a 3.2 and my nonstellar GREs of 910. If anyone has some encouraging words right now as I begin the application process (again), I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading my ventfest. Good luck to all of you in whichever direction you have chose!
  4. Hi everyone, Last May I graduated with a B.S. in Speech Language Pathology. It's pretty brutal getting into grad programs for this field, and after applying two years in a row I decided to switch things up. That being said, I've been subbing for my local school district for the past year. I have found that I have a passion and love Special Education. So I decided to go for my teaching certification (Missouri). after doing research (emailing programs and such) I found out that I only need three extra classes to earn my masters. I'm going to go for it, and hope for the best. I know this is the annoying question, but after the brutal two application seasons i've gone through without success I feel like i'm scarred. I am wondering how competitive this field is to get into school wise. My stats aren't the greatest, undergrad gpa of 3.3 and gre of 950. Like I said earlier, i'm hoping for the best, and i'm tired of feeling like i'm failing at life. So, cheers to helping kids!
  5. Sorry, definitely didn't mean to be a Debbie Downer. I'm just overly stressed like a lot of others killing time on the cafe Good luck, I hope you get great news pretty soon!
  6. Congrats! I'm waitlisted at Rockhurst, and would love to go there. I'm hoping for the best! Do you know any others who have been accepted there?
  7. Being on a waitlist seems to be the story of my life...for two years in a row.
  8. I will get accepted this week. Like by Tuesday. Thanks for posting this, for some reason it calmed my nerves a bit.
  9. Hi, I'm applying for masters SLP programs. As i'm killing time looking at the results page, I've noticed that several schools that i've applied to in MO and IL were hardly listed if even at all. So I was wondering if anyone was out there in my neck of the woods. I've applied to Rockhurst, University of Central Missouri, Truman, Southeast Missouri State University, and Southern IL University-Edwardsville. Good luck fellow future Speech Pathologists!
  10. So what's your back up plan? (This burns my butt every time I hear it.) I've been thinking about this actually, and decided I don't need a back up plan. I WILL do what I have to do to reach the ultimate goal.
