  1. I applied to a lot of these same schools last year! It depends on how badly you want to go somewhere. Last year I applied to: Aurora, Loyola, UIC, NYU, Dominican and Mizzou. After finding out more about these schools I knew I wanted to go to UIC but I wasn't notified until June that I was on the wait list. I decided I would rather reapply to UIC then go somewhere that would cost a lot of money and that my heart wasn't set on. So I decided to take a year off to do AmeriCorps. I reapplied in October and just found out that I was accepted to UIC for fall 2013! Remember, you can always put down a deposit somewhere and just lose your deposit money. In the long run, I think its worth it to lose the money and save your spot! Hope this helps a little!
  2. So I am far away from applying to a PhD program but I am starting at UIC in the fall for my MSW. I know I eventually want to get my PhD, does anyone have any advice they can share? Things they wish they would have done differently while in graduate school? I would really appreciate it!
  3. Well, sounds like anyone who hasn't heard yet probably won't be accepted to the day program. Bummer. =\
  4. Still haven't heard it would have been nice to wake up to an answer this morning!
  5. I replied regular decision and still haven't heard back...hopefully this week we will hear!.
  6. I've been accepted into BC (waiting to hear on funding but I have applied for an assistanship in the meantime), but I really am waiting to hear from UIC and UW. UIC is my dream school but I was waitlisted last year so I took a year off to do AmeriCorps and reapply! Hopefully I will be hearing back from both soon If you are interested in living in NYC I would consider Hunter, it is much more affordable and is a really great school! My neighbor goes there and she has really good things to say about it! Good luck with your decision!
  7. Unfortunatly, social workers typically make around $37,000-$57,000 a year. Did you get money to go to NYU? I got accepted there last year and deferred my admission but ultimately won't be going there because of the high price tag . Finances play a big role and nobody likes a high amount of debt!
  8. Call the schools you are applying to and explain the situation, they will more than likely switch the address for you. This happened to me last year. I moved halfway through the application process and I called and they sent it to my parents house instead!
  9. I just got an email saying I was accepted to BC! My boyfriend lives in Boston so I would love to go here if they offered my money. It said there was an info packet to come, is this where you got funding information?
  10. Thank you PittMSW12 That really helps! Right now I am thinking of doing more macro work, and working for a non-profit somewhere down the line (possibly doing some international work). I do plan on getting my PhD Zorah, (after a couple of years out working) which is why I am looking at these higher ranked programs, but also why I'm looking at more affordable options. I've heard Pitt has a great reputation as a whole, which is why I am excited to look into it further, and it will definitely be one I will be applying to! Thank you!
  11. So I found myself having a year off to do AmeriCorps, so I'm hoping to apply to more schools this fall since I have the opportunity. I have deferred my admission to NYU until Fall 2013 but was looking at more affordable options, so far I've been looking at: University of Washington, University of Pittsburgh, VCU, Hunter, Maryland, Albany and Rutgers. Could anyone give me insight into any of these schools? I've been looking strictly based on price (even though I would be out of state most of these schools would still be significantly less expensive than NYU). I would really appreciate it Anything helps!
  12. I just had orientation at Loyola on Monday, but am still waiting to hear from UIC. Also got accepted at NYU but my heart is really set on UIC. Not sure how I felt about Loyola, since your at the WaterTower campus you are kind of distant from the main campus (not sure I liked this). If I don't get into UIC I am deciding between Loyola and NYU. Both have big price tags but I can live expense free in Chicago
  13. I've been accepted to NYU but really have my heart set on UIC (but have not heard yet), I put in my $200 deposit but basically if I don't get into UIC than I am debating between Loyola University in Chicago or NYU, I could live expense free in Chicago but the tuition is by no means cheap at Loyola. I didn't get money at either places (as far as I know). I'm having a really hard time deciding and am really hoping I hear from UIC soon! Can't decide if going to NYU would be worth it...
