Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants
skybythelight replied to harvardlonghorn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
My boyfriend of nearly a year is planning to move with me wherever I may end up... Luckily, he works for a corporation that will allow him to easily transfer most anywhere in the country, so he'll have something while he works through a more long-term career plan. I included him in the researching process and the eight schools I ended up applying to are all in locations that we both felt we would feasibly like to move. It's hard, though... I worry that he's going to end up feeling like he just "followed" me. He isn't as excited as I had hoped. But I think that's a result of all of the not-knowing right now. -

Oh god yes. And yes to UMD as well, to whoever posted that. I'm expecting those ones any day now. And quietly freaking out about it. -

I'm so glad I'm not the only one... reading this thread gave me a brief moment of panic because I didn't even think about filling one out, either. I'm not planning on taking out any loans: I'm not going unless they fund me. So I didn't think it was necessary. -

Minnesota, Michigan and Maryland are all realistic expectations for this week. I want to die. -

There's another Penn State interview up on the board... and silence on my end. I'm definitely somewhere below 0% confidence at this point. -

All of this Michigan talk is making me nervous -- definitely one of my top choices, and top reaches. I'm so impatient! -

I'll join this group as well. I was part of the Vandy bloodbath, and haven't heard anything else. Based on last year, I shouldn't start hearing from my other PhD schools until next week, but knowing that hasn't lessened the anxiety any. -

Congrats to you and also to the Chicago admit, wherever you may be! -

If you decide to go with Dickens, I personally love Bleak House. It's pretty massive, but wonderful. -

Congrats to you all on your wonderful acceptances! There's an acceptance up for U Michigan in English and Education... maybe that means English Lit will be coming soon. Eek. -

The Penn State acceptance on the board is freaking me out. I haven't heard anything from them. Le sigh. -

Me too. Vanderbilt was a definite reach for me as well, but the first news being a rejection is not an awesome feeling. -

I'm not sure, either. Looks like we applied to a few of the same programs. You've heard from Minnesota? -

I just got out of a shower to find I had a missed call from Kent, WA and my heart skipped about seven beats because I applied to U Washington. Which isn't even in Kent. Jeepers crow. -

I'm in a similar situation as well, rems. My undergrad GPA is only average thanks to my first few years of unfocused, unmotivated goofing around. I took three semesters off and really excelled upon my return: I have a 4.0 for my last two years of undergrad. That brought the previous average up a bit, but not enough for me to really feel confident about my numbers in comparison to other applicants. My GRE scores are also average. I think I have a really solid writing sample, though, and I'm hoping that adcoms focus on my upswinging trajectory rather than my shaky beginning. -

I'm feeling the same way, so far. It's quite refreshing after the stress of application season. -

I'm also in the midst of the Song of Ice and Fire series. I just started A Dance with Dragons a few days ago. -
