For anyone still sending out applications, consider applying to The University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd School of Art. I finished my MFA in sculpture there in 2015. 3 year program, well funded, large art school within a strong research University. Assistantships carry about an $11,000 stipend and tuition remission. samilk I visited and know people who have gone through the program. The faculty and staff I met were nice and students seemed very active. Seemed like a great community. Being so secluded you'll likely get a lot of work done. I haven't heard the program being devoid of conceptual thinking or conversations, I think it's the opposite... If you get in, you should visit. You might get a totally new impression when you are there.

You are correct. They do not interview.

I was not interviewed. I received a letter in the mail and a phone call a little later. Funding is competetive and something you apply for in essay form after being accepted.

I recieved my acceptance letter to Rutgers late Feb last year. They staggered acceptance letters over a couple weeks after that, especially for painting.

Try not to wrassle it too much. Keep your statement concise. You dont want to overload it with specifics. Schools that conduct interviews will learn more about you at that stage. Aside from briefly describing your work or inspirations, maybe try to simply answer why you feel now is a good time for you to be in a critical environment making things.

University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd School of Art, has a few teaching practicums with opportunities to teach two out of the 3 years, depending on department needs.

Hey Sculptor, Thats a tough choice. the dean at Sam Fox, BuzzSpector, is an awesome guy, but I've heard good things about LSU too. I'm debating between a two year and three year program myself. Probably going to go with the three year to have more teaching experience/time in the studio. I wanted to comment on the fact that Sam Fox doesnt have many faculty/students in sculpture. I think it is important to have good faculty/peer support when working with sculpture/space. It could be hard to step out of your material comfort zone if there are no 3d artists to challenge your way of making. Not to say someone cant spark their own growth (in many different ways) but being surrounded by faculty and peers with material knowledge will most likely create a better conversation and 'learning' experience.

If their shops and tools are good, you get teaching experience and they are offering money it sounds like a great deal. You can make anything happen with that. I've also heard great things about MICA (Rhinehart) from alum .
