  1. You're right..UBC is not particularly known for Gender studies...are you thinking of attending Queen's?
  2. I think they have only sent a few emails as of right now. The majority of emails (first round offers, that is) will be sent next week. So there is every reason to expect a positive response in the coming days. Also, you should contact the graduate assistant to find out the status of your application.
  3. Got an acceptance from UofT, PhD Political Science. First round of offers should be going out early next week.
  4. MA acceptances usually follow a week or two later. That is what the trend has been for UBC over the past few years. Your best bet would be to email them and find out.
  5. *Jenny*, mine also appears as blank. It won't change. The grad coordinator at the political science department said that we will get a direct email from them, regardless of whether it is an acceptance or a rejection. In any case, the status would remain blank. This, I'm sure, varies by department.
  6. Going by last year's results, UBC gave out offers (and rejected others) during the reading week. Hopefully, they would do the same this year.
  7. We should hear back from UBC by the end of Feb. That is what the grad assistant told me.
  8. Generally, yes. Part of the reason why that is the case is because deadline for a lot of Canadian programs is usually in January or February, unlike American schools where deadlines are usually in December.
  9. MattCC, you already have some assurance because you got accepted to George Mason. At least you've a choice. The wording of the letter could have obviously been better; I don't why OSU phrased the rejection in those terms.
  10. Yce3f7c, this largely depends on the program you're applying. Queen's, in general, is known to be a good, mid-size research university. I'm not really sure how Queen's is viewed as far as humanities is concerned, but in my field, that is, politics, it is very well regarded and would certainly count as one of the top universities in Canada.
  11. Does anyone the average number of applications UBC gets for their graduate program?
  12. drschad...did you apply for the PhD program or the MA program? I've applied to UBC and UofT for PhD in political science.
  13. It is either going to be later than PhD admits or about the same time. In some cases, the deadline for MA programs is usually later than that of PhD programs, therefore, the notification time is also sometimes different. Good luck!
  14. From what I've seen over the past couple of years, UBC's Political Science department usually responds by the third week of February, while U of T polisci starts to give offers around the first-second week of March.
  15. Hi all. I didn't see a separate thread for Canadian polisci programs, so I created one. The purpose, of course, is to share information regarding programs, updates, and responses to applications. Good luck!
  16. heard from DAAD a minute ago....wasn't lucky...good luck to everyone else
  17. Hi all, As shibboleth12 mentioned, we won't hear until end of march, beginning of april. In previous years, however, people got to know the results in early march. Fingers crossed. Good luck!
  18. If you did your Masters from elsewhere then I don't see a problem with you applying to your alma mater. What matters is that you did one degree, i.e. your masters, from a different place and you took the initiative to explore a different academic environment. That is exactly what universities want. They want you to work in a different academic setting and that you prove your mettle there. Once you get the experience, there is no reason why they wouldn't consider your application positively for a PhD.
  19. I have a few questions for those who have been through this process as Canadian applicants. I recently completed my undergrad (polisci) from the University of Toronto and I'll be starting my masters (also in polisci) at Queen's University. Once I'm done with my M.A. program at Queen's I would like to apply to several American PhD programs. The programs that I'm considering vary considerably in terms of ranking: Wisconsin-Madison, UCLA, UCSD, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, and Princeton. How have Canadian applicants fared in comparison to other international applicants? Does the reputation of Canadian universities matter for adcomms at U.S. universities? Do Canadians with a US PhD have an edge over Canadian PhDs in the Canadian academic job market? I'm pretty sure that every year a considerable number of Canadians go to the United States for graduate programs, but I'm sort of clueless as to what the trend has been in the field of political science. Any help/advice/comment would be appreciated.
