  1. I got notification that they will let us know on Friday (tomorrow)by 5pm EST
  2. I got a 4.0, which means my proposal was really weak. Then again, trying to write a good proposal within a month of starting a PhD program isn't the easiest. What was the cutoff point, I'd really like to know since I'm resubmitting!
  3. Nope, I saw somewhere on the website that the date they would announce their decisions is May 1st. Did you get invited to one of their summer seminars?
  4. Anyone heard anything recent from UC Irvine? I'm expecting the rejection any day, but I'm getting impatient haha.
  5. I got my master's first, mostly because I tried applying to a couple PhD programs right away and got rejected (low GPA, low GRE, no experience). So after that I regrouped and found MA programs that offered spring admission. I didn't want to wait an entire year to try again for MA programs. An MA isn't necessary, people get accepted without it, but its good to have some type of research experience on your record. It might be different with bioanth too (I'm cultural).
  6. I got my masters at GW. With the new PhD program, the odds of you getting funding are slim. Anyone who had funding had it as a TA, and all that funding is now going to the PhD admits. There are other non-department funding opportunities however. PM me if you want to know more.
  7. Congrats timetogobacktoschool! Do you have anymore info? Do you know if all the acceptances have been contacted?
  8. I saw someone got accepted to UC irvine. Congrats! Could you tell us how you found out? Do you know if all the decisions were made?
  9. I thought the department wasn't going to start notifying people until march! I haven't heard anything either...
  10. Hey, regarding GW I haven't heard anything, but I applied to their new anth phd, not hom.paleo like one person mentioned above. Unsure if they are doing interviews or not. Does anyone have word from UC Irvine, UCLA or UC Santa Cruz yet? do you know if the departments conduct interviews? I got accepted to both my backup schools at least. Not Cal, but it's not like I was expecting to. Congrats to those who got in!
  11. I loved living in DC. I got my masters from GW, just finished in December, and lived south of Logan Circle. Rent is pretty high in the city, especially if you want a studio or your own apartment. I paid 1350 a month including utilities to have my own master bedroom in an apt with 2 other people. The place was furnished, which was great, and the lease was month to month, so I wasn't forced into a year long lease with a credit check and all of that. Plus the landlord had set up a nice social community so I often went to potlucks, study sessions, and oer events in the building. Where I was living I could walk to any metro line within 15 minutes. Actually, if you want to know more about the housing situation, I can put you in contact with my former landlord if you pm me. You don't need a car in the city. I think it would be a nightmare having one just because people in DC don't know how to drive. Red lights and stop signs are ignored by commuters and taxi drivers. But DC is incredibly walkable. I lived 1.5 miles from GW and found myself walking most of the time if the weather was decent. The circulator bus is the best bet though, since it costs 1 dollar with a smarttrip card with transfers within 2 hours. Plus the line to AdMo runs til the bars close on fri and sat nights. Nightlife in DC is great. No matter what your style is, you can find something in DC. I joined a kickball league too and made several friends that way. NAKID kickball...and no we do not play naked. Definitely gives your something to do on a Sunday after bottomless mimosa brunch.
