  1. I voted for ed policy, but it seems to me that economics is increasingly eclipsing psychology as the main way to understand issues in education. I'm kinda biased, since economics in education is my research interest, but when I did my undergrad, it was all psych all the time, and when I started looking at grad programs five years later, ed psych seemed to have sort of faded back a little bit.
  2. Got an email from UCLA this morning; looks like I'm out of the running. Good luck to the rest of you, though! I'm sure the wait is almost over!
  3. Yeah, there was a bunch of speculation about UCLA on the UC Scools thread... But I haven't heard anything from them either. Not sure if I should give up on UCLA or just keep waiting. FWIW, you can check out the Application Status page on the UCLA website to see of they've taken action on your app yet.
  4. Mine came in the mail, followed a week later by an email from the program director making sure that I had gotten the letter. She had told me before that they mail out all the notifications at the same time, but that's for the education program. Obviously, the English people might be different.
  5. Just about to start System of the World by Neal Stephenson, and after that, I'm going to hit up Cryptonomicon. Should be a pretty cool few months.
  6. Good God... I didn't even know there WAS a Decision Status page at UCLA. "To date, no decision has been made on your application." Oh well; I guess that's just more admissions crack for the waiting-game pipe.
  7. I've been wondering about this a lot myself. My visit isn't for a few more weeks, and I've been accepted already, but I'm also a super low-key dresser. I'm a guy, so obviously YMMV, but I'm planning to wear just some nice pants, a button-down shirt, and some comfortable shoes. I'll look nice but not too nice... I don't ever wear ties, so doing something like that seems sort of disingenuous to me. I don't want them to think of me as that kind of guy because I'm really not, you know, that kind of guy. My point of view is that they want me for what I can do, how I think, and my potential as a scholar, not for my ability to look like an investment banker.I'm hoping I'm right!
  8. I'm sure you'll hear something. Maybe not from the prof, but somebody will get in touch with you to let you know the decision. Waiting sucks, but I think that's all there is to do.
  9. Agreed. I did two interviews and got accepted by the school I've heard back from, and my wife did three with the same school but was denied. We're sort of trying to figure out what happened there, but no matter what, it's definitely true that you've made the short list! OT: hitomimay, are you going to the USC new admits thing in March? Maybe I'll see you there!
  10. Just got my first acceptance last week... and I'm definitely considering the tattoo. Thinking of doing a Japanese dragon holding an apple on my left shoulder. Still kind of waiting for the excitement of being accepted to wear off before I make a final decision, though.
