  1. I finally got in! How is your decision process going? Did they ever update you on the GTA? I'm going to be talking to the program director about funding possibilities early next week, but I was wondering if you looked into TA possibilities in other departments or the like as you've been waiting?
  2. I just thought I'd check back in and see if you ever got funding? I happen to be wait-listed, and received an update email recently, which made me think of your wait-list position in regards to a GTA.
  3. I hadn't planned on really wanting this program, but some life (and thesis idea) changes prompted a desire to attend. My struggle now is that I've been wait-listed for a TAship, and I don't want to attend unfunded because teaching is really important to me. Does anyone have any knowledge on the likelihood of someone else turning down an offer? I know it's a long shot, but I figured maybe someone else here would have either knowledge or past experience with the program.
  4. pinkrobot, did the online portal change to show your acceptance when you got in? Also, would you mind sharing your area of emphasis? Which professors, if any, did you list on your SoP? Sorry for the questions. I'm freaking out about Penn State, as it's my dream program.
  5. I applied to the MA as well. That post did seem remarkably early, but I recall a thread in which the poster claimed the admit. Penn State is notorious for being late to the response party. *oops, didn't see the previous post show up while I wrote this...
  6. Ironically, that post is one of my good friends. I'll direct her here for you. Congratulations on yet another acceptance! Now, if I can just get you to turn down Oregon State so they call me. . .
  7. I recently graded a paper arguing for the legalization of municipal, rather than medicinal, marijuana.
  8. Awesome. Congrats again! I'm still waiting on admission news, and am suddenly quite anxious now that I know responses have begun. I already have one admit elsewhere, so waiting is at least bearable at this point, but I'm rather fond of Oregon State's program and faculty, so I'm hoping for good news! Were you admitted to the literature and culture track, or to the rhetoric, writing, and culture? What is your area of emphasis or research? I'm after the literature and culture option, and my expressed interest is in Postcolonial literature with an emphasis in Caribbean/Latin American literature and travel narratives.
  9. I saw an acceptance from Oregon State; Congrats to the poster!! Did they alert you as to the timeline for GTA positions? Were you provided with any other information? I'd love to hear anything you may know regarding the acceptance/funding timeline, as I am anxiously awaiting their response.
  10. Out of curiosity, has anyone had any experience with either BSU's Masters or MFA? If so, I'd love to hear specifics.
  11. I'll claim that one. Thanks much! I'm local to the Treasure Valley, so BSU is familiar to me. It's something of a safety school for me, but I love it here enough that I'm happy to stay for a few more years and enjoy the outdoor prospects if the top-tier programs say no. Did you attend BSU? It seems to be a pretty close-knit program with plenty of opportunities for a school of its size. And yes, Martin Corless-Smith is a genius. The chance to work with him really sweetens the BSU deal quite a bit.
